Born Alison Gwendoline Storrar, a Scotland native, daughter of James Storrar and Rebecca Foster Storrar of Scotland, passed away on March 29, 2025, at Houston Hospice after a two-month battle with cancer.
Gwen was born in Leven, Scotland, on May 2, 1940. She attended Powmill Primary School in Rumbling Bridge before moving to Inverkeithing and finishing the remaining years of her schooling in Leven, Scotland. After graduating high school, she went to work as a Comptometer operator for the coal miners, which, unbeknownst to her, would be pivotal knowledge in creating the family business later in life. On a night out with friends at the Burma Ballroom in Kirkcaldy, she met the love of her life, Ross Ferguson, who would become her husband of 63 years. Ross knew Gwen was the one and asked her to marry him within weeks, and the two were married on November 18, 1961.
In 1964, Ross and Gwen moved to Singapore so that Ross, working for Ferranti, could commission the Bloodhound missile defense system. Gwen would give birth to their first son, Stephen Ross Ferguson, shortly after arriving in Singapore. After completing Ross's work in Singapore, in 1966 they returned to Penicuik, Scotland, where they would welcome their second son, Alan Ferguson. In 1970, to move closer to Gwen's parents, the family moved back to Kirkcaldy, Scotland, where in 1972 they would welcome their third son, Neil John Ferguson. After Neil was born, Gwen finally conquered her fear and learned to drive. In 1979, the family moved to Banchory, Scotland, for Ross to become the General Manager of Ferranti Offshore Systems Limited, where in 1982, they would welcome their fourth and final son, Scott Alexander Ferguson. As a mother to four boys, Gwen always put her family first. The boys would always have a fresh home-cooked meal to come home to at night, even cleaning and cooking the boys' fresh catch of mackerel they would bring home.
In 1983, Ross and Gwen made one of the most significant decisions of their lives, moving the family to the United States of America, except for Steve, who stayed to finish his studies. After Steve joined the family in the US, in 1988, the family made the next life changing decision by starting the family business DataVox. As a loving mother to her boys, one of Gwen's goals as she went through life was to keep the family together, so when the opportunity to start a family business was discussed, she jumped in to help and excelled like everything else she did. Her experience as a Comptometer operator would now come to fruition as she played an instrumental role in the company's success and would manage the company's accounting and payroll for the next 20 years. Without Gwen's commitment and dedication, the company would not have excelled to be what it is today.
As a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she never missed a birthday and everything about them - her memory was remarkable. Gwen was a phenomenal cook and would enjoy weekends cooking breakfast for Ross, Steve, and her grandsons after their hunt. You could always find her at any of her grandkids and great grandkids' soccer games, dance recitals, cheer competitions, softball games, or birthday parties; she also had a passion for painting, gardening, and traveling the world on cruise ships with Ross.
Of all her accomplishments, she was most proud of her four boys, their loving families, their many achievements, and the company they built together. Gwen is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Ross Ferguson; her sons, Stephen Ross Ferguson and his wife, Shannon Lee Ferguson; Alan Ferguson and his wife, Jody Michelle Ferguson; Neil John Ferguson and his wife, Michelle Eileen Ferguson; Scott Alexander Ferguson and his wife, MaryAnn Hoang Ferguson. Her loving grandchildren Allyson and her husband David Lawton; Courtney and her wife Emily; Andrew and his wife Peyton; Matthew and his wife Whitney; Alec, Rebecca and her fiancé Andy Wilson; Jessie, Jaden McInnis, Ailie, Sydney, and John Ross; her precious five great-grandchildren Kendall, Sophie, Charli, Beckett, and Willow; her sister Elizabeth Christine Reekie and husband Jim Reekie and many adoring nieces, nephews and family members. She is preceded in death by her parents, James Storrar and his wife, Rebecca Foster Storrar; her brother, David Grant Storrar; and her granddaughter, Lauren Michelle Ferguson.
