BAUER, Allan
Allan (Al) Wescott Bauer was born on March 29, 1947 in Calgary, Alberta, as the eldest son of four children to John and Mavis Bauer. Allan began his young life raised primarily in the Albertan towns of Devon and St. Albert. Thriving on friendships, motorcycles and cars, he grew up during the carefree sugarpop days of the fifties and sixties. His life was forever changed as a young teen when he met his sweetheart Sandi Freeman.
Marrying and starting out, the pair was blessed with three daughters. They lived in towns and cities throughout Western Canada. Then with several hitches in the Arctic under his belt, Allan pursued an opportunity to go overseas. First to Saudi Arabia, then to Indonesia and from there on to the rest of the world.
Allan's career spanned over four decades. Having accomplishments within the Oil Drilling industry and having a reputation for safety and excellence, he was able to reach the pinnacle of his career before retiring. Benefits of such hard work and dedication extended to having his family relocate often times close to his working assignments. This was when the Bauer family made most of their treasured memories as they embraced the culture around them and became part of a large expatriate community.
Allan and Sandi returned home to Canada in 2003, choosing the beautiful warm spot of the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. More memories were made as Allan and Sandi reconnected with long time friends that call the B.C. coast their home. They welcomed family and friends once again to come, stay and enjoy as they had overseas; visiting year after year.
Finding beauty and peace on their acreage, Allan with Sandi by his side spent the final six months of his life at home – taking it one day at a time. Family and friends still visited as they came to help care for them both. It was on June 23, 2015 in the early hours of a warm summer morning at the age of 68 that Allan went to be with Jesus.
Allan was predeceased by his parents John and Mavis Bauer; his brother Bradley; parents-in-law Gordon 'Tommy' and Bernice Freeman; sister-in-law Denise Eisbrenner; brother-in-law Brian Young; niece Shauna Freeman; and great-nephew Jordie Messum.
Allan is survived by Sandi, his loving wife of 48 years; daughters Jackie (Sam) Hamid, Launa Bustamante (Darren Beuerlein), and Trina (Jason) Yurdiga; grandchildren Steven, Stephanie, Nainoah and Carter; brother Murray (Betsi) Bauer, sister Gwen Bauer (Scott Rodda), nieces Ashley, Brittney and Amber; and nephews Cory (Janelle), Aaron, Jordan and Zach.
Allan met his match in Sandi, a love that began so young. Living, growing and learning about life together is how their friendship stood the test of time. Sandi not only lost the man that had her heart but her best friend and running mate. She knows that one day there will be a great celebration when she gets to see him again in Heaven.
A small family memorial was held on February 20, 2016 at Beulah Alliance Church in Edmonton, Alberta. Officiating the service was Pastor Peter Jackson of Black Creek Community Church, Vancouver Island, B.C.
