Amanda Jean Gray Perry

Carthage - Amanda Jean Gray Perry, age 97, of Carthage, Texas, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. She was born in Barnwell, South Carolina on March 23, 1924. Amanda graduated from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She married Fleetwood L. Perry, Sr. on August 5, 1945 until his death on May 12, 2002. Amanda spent her career as an educator teaching at various elementary schools in Corpus Christi Independent School District to include adult education at Solomon Coles High School. She retired from San Antonio Independent School District. She was a Golden Soror in Alpha Kappa Alpha (Delta Gamma Omega) Sorority and volunteered on many committees in Corpus Christi Texas including Black Awareness Art Exhibit, Spohn Health System Auxiliary, United Fund Community Service, Black Awareness Day Art Exhibit, YWCA Volunteer, Greenwood Park Den Mother, Corpus Christi Municipal Art Commission, Corpus Christi Parks Retired Service Volunteer Program, and she was an active church member of several churches in Corpus including St. Mathew Baptist Church. She was the founder of Greenwood Molina Children Center. Amanda's passions were children, especially teaching them to read, she was an accomplished artist and painter, her love of God centered her life, and she loved her family. She was especially passionate about her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Amanda is survived by her children, Harry Lee (Vicki), Brenda Joyce Richie (John), Frederick Eugene (Clovis), Glen Alan, Clifton Hannibal (Sharon), and Clifford Hans. She is also survived by a host of grand, great-grand, and great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, Harry and Lula Gray, her brothers, Thurman and Wes, and her sisters, Louise and Ruth. Funeral Services will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, April 29, at 2:00 pm.

I love and miss you dearly aunt Amanda. Your spirit will live on in all of us. Every time I see you I see your dear sister my grandmother Louise. Both of you are missed dearly. Continue to watch over us while protecting and guiding us!

You will be missed, you and Aunt Louise was alwalys there, after losing your sister Ruth my Mom, really hurts to know that Uncle Thurman, Uncle West Aunt Louise and Ruth and you are gone. God called you home! You were tired and its time to rest, you have done your time here on earth. Its hard to day goodbye
