NEWPORT -- Amelia Louise Robbins, 70, a lifelong resident of Claremont, died Sept. 23, 2009, at her daughter's home on Oak Street.
She was born in Brattleboro, Vt., Nov. 25, 1938, to John Gerald and Louise Pauline (Rupprecht) Dube. She was raised and educated in the Brattleboro, Vt., area and graduated from Brattleboro High School.
She worked as a sales associate at K-Mart in Claremont for more than 10 years and later as a bank teller for the Connecticut River Bank. For the past six years she had resided in Hernando, Fla., and Newport.
She was a member of the Hernando VFW, the Dart Club of Hernando, and Elks Club of Claremont.
She enjoyed dancing, cooking and entertaining for family and friends, playing darts, cards, the penny slot machines, traveling, attending concerts, and gardening.
Family members include two sons, Loren W. Robbins III of Windsor, Vt., and Mark P. Robbins of Charlestown; two daughters, Teresa L. Gallagher of Newport, and Tracey L. Engler of Bristol; and eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
SERVICES: There will be no calling hours. A service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport with the Rev. Richard St. Louis Jr. officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Locust Ridge Cemetery in Brattleboro, Vt.
Memorial donations may be made to the oncology dept. of Mt. Ascutney Hospital, 289 County Road, Windsor, VT 05089 or to Connecticut Valley Home Care Hospice Program, 958 John Stark Highway, Newport 03773.
Arrangements are under direction of Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home of Newport (www.newtonbartlett.com).

I met Amelia in 1955 when Bob Holden and Dick Shine and Niel Pierce started to meet new friends,she was with a group that became our friends and we hit the local barn dances,she was a wonderful young woman and was part of a great group from Brattleboro.My prayers are with the family and friends

Butch- I’m so sorry to hear about the death of your mother. I only met her a few times, but she was always so friendly with a twinkle in her eye. Although no words can really help to ease your loss and the sadness you feel, just know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
