Palm City - Ann "Pat" Douglas
Heaven has gained a new angel, Pat Douglas passed away unexpectedly at her home in
Palm City, FL on August 8, 2025 having recently celebrated her 89th birthday on a cruise to Bermuda! She was born in Wilkinsburg, PA on July 4, 1936. She moved to Florida in 1964 where she and her young family were one of the first 300 people in the newly formed Port St. Lucie.
She spent many years working in the St. Lucie County school system as assistant to the principal and helped open the first elementary school in Port St. Lucie. Once her children graduated high school she moved back to Pittsburgh to be near her parents and later met her husband, Cal Douglas, who she worked with for many years in his recruiting business for nonprofit executives. They were married 23 years before he was called to heaven. The job she enjoyed the most was Church administrator and secretary. She held those positions over the years both in Pittsburgh and in later years at Palm City Presbyterian Church, serving in many roles within the Church, as an employee, volunteer, Ordained Elder, prayer partner, and many more. She remained active in her church and serving others until her death.
Pat had a heart for serving others and a kind gentle way of making sure you knew you were loved. She cared deeply for others and had an unwavering faith in her Savior Jesus Christ.
She loved the simple things in life, like watching the birds and ducks from her living room, to watching Hallmark movies, and listening to music. Most of her life she was in at least one choir or playing the bells, but cherished her years as a Sweet Adeline, competing in 7 national championships. She had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed her weekly dinners out with friends and Sunday dinner and games with her family.
She loved to travel, be it to see family and friends, a road trip, a church retreat, a day trip to see nearby sites or a trip to Scotland and visiting Machu Picchu in Peru. There was no slowing her down in recent years as she enjoyed cruising and many new adventures from Alaska to Canada, the Panama Canal, New England, Newport, Mackinac Island, Manhattan and Bermuda. When cruising, she loved the days at sea, as well as seeing the sights off the ship.
She was predeceased by her father and mother Milt and Helen Suter, sister Ande Anderson, husband Cal Douglas and son-in-law Mark Duvall.
She is survived by her daughter Debra Duvall, son Robert (Diantha) Gillen, granddaughter Rochelle Gillen (Scott Altpeter) and brother-in-law Lenny Anderson, niece Terri (Doug) Porado, great nephew Dillon Porado, nephew Eric Anderson, cousin Joe (Linda) Miller and their family, stepson Kelly Douglas, granddaughter Natalie Douglas, as well as many other family members, friends, and loved ones.
"Having given my life to my Savior, Jesus Christ, I know the truth. As you read this notice of my earthly death, I can say that I have moved from the land of the dying to the land of the living. Same person, just with a new eternal address!"
A memorial service will be at 4pm Sunday October 5, 2025, at Palm City Presbyterian Church, 2700 SW Martin Highway,
Palm City, FL 34990. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Palm City Presbyterian Church in Pat's memory.
