Arlene Schafer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 3, 2025.
In Loving Memory of Arlene Eleanor Schafer

Arlene Eleanor Schafer, born Arlene Eleanor Poe on February 27, 1937, peacefully passed away in the early hours of December 31, 2024, at the age of 87. Arlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and grace.

She is survived by her beloved husband of sixty-nine years, Donald (Buck) Schafer, Sr. Together, they shared a deep bond that spanned decades, built on love, affection, and unwavering companionship.

Arlene was the proud mother of two children, Michelle Pieffer and her husband David, and Donald Schafer, Jr. and his wife Faye. Her love for her children was immeasurable, and she instilled in them the values of kindness, patience, and strength that she carried throughout her life.

Arlene's greatest joy was her family, and she was blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren and four cherished great-grandchildren. They brought her immense pride, and she never missed an opportunity to shower them with her warmth and affection. Her legacy will live on through them, in the love she gave and the lessons she taught.

Known for her generous and compassionate spirit, Arlene's kindness touched everyone she met. She had an uncanny ability to make people feel at ease, her presence always a source of comfort and light. Whether sharing a laugh, offering a listening ear, or lending a hand, Arlene's compassion was a hallmark of her character.

As she joins the angels, Arlene leaves behind a void in the hearts of all who knew her. Yet, her memory will continue to inspire, to guide, and to remind us all of the power of unconditional love.

A celebration of life will be held sometime in the future, though the date has not yet been determined. The family will provide more details in the future. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Arlene's memory by doing something kind for someone else, just as she did for so many throughout her life.

Arlene's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and she will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace.

I recall when I was around ten years old and went on vacation to Ocean City with my sister Jean, Donny, Mr. Don and Mrs R. We had the best times. Mrs R´s nephew Scott Poe also went with us. She made sure Scott and I had a good time. She would wake us up early while everyone else was sleeping to go on adventures. One morning she took us bike riding on the boardwalk and I remember riding off the side of the boardwalk and fell about three feet onto the beach. Mrs R raced over in concern. I wasn´t hurt except for my pride, so we all had a good laugh. On another morning, she had planned to take Scott and I crabbing. Everyone said we wouldn´t catch any crabs and were crazy to wake up so early. Mrs R got us up around 6am and we went crabbing and sure enough we didn´t catch any crabs. Rather than go back to the place without crabs and hear I told you so, Mrs R stopped at a crab place and bought 2 dozen of live crabs and took them back to the place. We told everyone that we caught the crabs and they were all surprised. She swore Scott and I to secrecy. Everyone was impressed at how many crabs we "caught". Looking back, it was her vacation and she spent it entertaining 2 brats and making sure we had fun. Pretty unselfish of her.
Will never forget Halloweens in Cedonia with Mrs R and Mr Don dressed up as the Munsters. What fun. Thank you Mrs R for all of the special memories.

I was lucky to have done her hair & enjoyed her stories about her long, funny & amazing life. I have kept her sweet & thoughtful gifts and think of her every time I look at them. I sure will miss seeing her <3

Mrs R was such a friendly, warm, and fun person to spend time with when my wife, Val, and I were teenagers and young adults. Don and Shelley were blessed to have her as their mom. Mrs R and Mr Don were always great to be around. They always treated my family as family. I have many fond memories of the football playoff parties Mrs R hosted-what great food and fun.
I believe in all the promises of Jesus and know our paths will cross again in Heaven. May your fond memories and the hope God gives us comfort you.
Heartfelt sympathy and Love,
Ray and. Val.

Arlene was the best ex Mother in law. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. I loved her and have fond memories to cherish, from our vacations to San Diego, California, Ocean City, Maryland and Orlando, Florida. All the times she treated me to steamed crabs at Bo Brooks. For making all the flowers for my first wedding, and purchasing my first wedding gown. I haven´t seen her in 20 years, but she will be missed. Heartfelt Condolences and prayers go out to her husband Donald and her family. Thanks for all you did for me, for the 10 years we spent together. You were the best. Until we meet again, I Love You Ms. R!!!
