Arthur “Bud” J. Lorden, 92, of George Street, Attleboro, formerly of Canterbury Woods, Garfield Avenue, Attleboro passed away on August 31, 2010 at the Golden Living Center - Attleboro. He was the husband of the late Edna L. (Bristow) Lorden to whom he was married in 1958 and who died on June 9, 2009.

Born in North Attleboro, Massachusetts on June 3, 1918, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary (Connelly) Lorden. Raised and educated in North Attleboro, Mr. Lorden resided with his sister, Eileen Lorden, until his marriage to his beloved wife, Edna. He resided in Attleboro since 1958 and was a former resident of Plainville. He was a communicant of St. Martha’s Parish in Plainville.

“Bud” appeared to be a quiet and unassuming man but he had a talent for singing and art. His voice was heard many times as a member of the choirs of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in North Attleboro and at St. Martha’s Parish in Plainville. He also sang in many barbershop quartets in the Attleboro area.

After graduating from Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island, his talent in art landed him a job at the former L. G. Balfour Company in Attleboro where he worked until his retirement in the early 1990’s. At Balfour, he was the lead artist designing many of the World Series press pins and such iconic trophies as the Cy Young Award and the World Series Trophy. Some of his original trophy drawings have been enshrined at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

He treasured the time spent with his wife and family and his favorite pastimes in life included baseball, ice cream and telling a corny joke. He will be memorialized for his achievements and missed for his gentle spirit.

He is survived by his nephews: Howard Bristow of North Attleboro and Paul Bristow of Attleboro; a niece: Marsha Collins of Millis and several great nieces, great nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

He was the brother of the late Eileen Lorden.

Visitation has been respectfully omitted.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 10:00 AM as the Mass at St. Martha’s Roman Catholic Church, 227 South Street, Plainville will be said in his name and honor.

Burial will be private in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro.

I am Tom Lorden, the son of Eugene Lorden. Eugene's dad and Bud's dad were brothers. I am sorry to hear of his passing. I can remember visiting with him often in my younger days - my mother Julie Lorden used to take me to see him. Being in the service took me away, and work kept me everywhere, it seems, but the North East. God bless all the Lorden family. Tom

To the Lorden family:
My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. I knew Bud from his days at Balfour when we were both working there. He was a very special and talented person.

Sorry to hear that Bud has passed on. Years ago I sang in the barber shop quartet with him and I found him to be friendly and warm. My condolences to his family.
