Bambi Combs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2024.
Bambi Yvonne Combs (née Slate), aged 60, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2024, in Peytona, West Virginia. Born on February 28, 1964, in Clarksville, Tennessee, Bambi spent the majority of her life in the Tidewater area of Virginia, where she was known for her generous and caring spirit.

A graduate of Indian River High School in 1982 and later Tidewater Community College, Bambi dedicated her professional life to helping others as a Lab Tech and phlebotomist at Sentara Norfolk General. Her caring nature extended beyond her professional life into her personal passions; she was an avid history enthusiast and had a profound love for animals, particularly cats, often taking in strays and providing them with a loving home.

Bambi's life was marked by her deep devotion to her family. She is survived by her daughter, Sara Katherine Slate; son, Richard Lawrence Miller; granddaughters, Haleigh Clark, Ariel Altman, and Naomi Miller; daughter-in-law, Nikki Wassenaar; mother, Jayne Slate; sisters, Bethany Waters and Heather Slate; brother-in-law, Kenny Waters; niece and nephew, Amanda Jeffers and Aaron Waters; previous husbands, Bill Combs and Darren Miller; father of daughter, Theodore Rust; fiance of daughter, Kevin Altman and 3 sons. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Slate; sister, Cara Jayne Slate; and her grandparents.

A Celebration of Life ceremony for Bambi will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to her memorial fund at GoFundMe.com. Handley Funeral Home in Danville, West Virginia is assisting the family with arrangements. Bambi's legacy of kindness and compassion will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.

I first met Bambi in 1981. Her father whom adored her had me over at their house. My brother and me are 18 months apart in age and so was Bambi and her sister Beth. Bambi was loving kind person who enjoyed fun. Bambi blessed everyone with a angel Sara and then a son Richard whom she both loved dearly and was so proud of. Years later Me, Bambi, Sara several of her friends Richie and my sons all went to Virginia Beach to enjoy the ocean followed by a dinner at Golden Corral. Watching the kids interact, laugh, and have fun together as Bambi beamed with love and pride is a memory I still can see. Now Bambi is talking to her Daddy telling him about her life experiences. God Bless you both on a joyous reunion. If you haven´t seen it a gofundme is set up to help Sara and Richard in these trying times. Bambi you did good girl. Miss you, love you. Pete

My mom was one of a kind. She always hung out with me and my friends. She loved music and animals. She took me to my first concert at the boat house. She was a tough woman. We would talk for hours on the phone. I love and miss her so much. There will never be anyone like her.
