Mr. Newby, age 56 of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Charlotte, NC, passed away Monday morning, January 12, 2004 at his home.
Mr. Newby was of the Methodist faith. He was retired from AETNA Life and Casualty as a claims supervisor. Basil was an avid bridge player, a member of the American Contract Bridge League achieving the rank of Silver Life master and one cool dad. He was a retired Petty Officer First Class in the U S Navy with over 20 years of service. Basil was a graduate of UNC-Pembroke. He was a kind hearted man who was a natural at helping others.
Surviving are his wife, Jo Anne Newby; son and daughter-in-law, Reed and Lisa Newby of Charlotte, NC; step children, Mike McConnell, Robert McConnell, Nicole Quisling and husband Scott; grandchildren, Ava Grace Quisling, Jason and Taylor DeMarco; sister, Valerie Guida and husband Vince of Keyport, NJ; and the mother of his son, Nancy Inman Newby of Charlotte, NC.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Friday in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with a Celebration of Life to follow at 7 p.m.
