I just called to schedule a follow-up appointment with Dr. Siu for my daughter, Rachel. We only met Dr. Siu one time, at an initial 2 year heart check for my daughter. However, the visit was so memorable, some months later, I jumped at the chance to share the details of it with an ampitheater full of people at a new employee orientation I was required to attend. We were asked to share an extraordinary medical care provider experience. Perhaps only those who were blessed enough to have had an encounter with Dr. Siu would appreciate the sheer goodness and unique care with which Dr. Siu treated his patients. He was the only doctor I have ever seen (and in my 60 years, I've seen a few!) who made me feel that there was really nothing more important to him than my care. His manners had a way of reaching into more than physical concerns, which I have now come to understand were spiritual, as well! Like Mrs. Siu, I too, came to know extreme suffering from the sudden loss of the love of my life, my daughter's father. Coincidently, he was born the same year as Dr. Siu, but died when he was only 43. I would be remiss not to tell you that while that was the most horrific happening of my life; being suddenly widowed, amputated, left to single-parent two young children. And yet, there is nothing I've ever experienced which brought me closer to the merciful, loving God of the universe, Creator of all love and life... I pray you too, will grow in His tender care as you walk through the valley of this immeasurable loss.

Dr. Siu was my son's cardiologist. I can't even tell you what he meant to our little family. He walked with us through Ryan's open-heart surgery and recovery. As his specialist, he always made sure we understood what he was explaining to us. My son LOVED the person. He looked forward to seeing him, and thats something for a four year old to want to see a doctor. It only made things better when we realized he shared our faith.
We are going to miss him forever.

I just wanted to say that I am VERY saddened after hearing the news of Dr. Sui passing away. My son was a patient of doctor from the day he was born. Dr. Sui, in my eyes, was a part of my family and it is just heart breaking to know that he wont be there any more. He was genuinely the nicest person I had ever met. In a time that was so critical to me and my family, he cried, laughed, prayed, and gave tons of knowledge and inspiring words to keep us moving on. He will be truly missed. I will be forever in his debt because he gave me what no one else at the time could..... Hope and much needed faith! If I could tell his family one thing for sure, it would be that I know God has gotten an angel and he is looking down with his million dollar smile!

Just wanted to let you know how sorry we were to hear about Dr. Sui. He will greatly be missed in the medical feild and as a father and friend. I can remember the time your youngest son was born and Scott was in the ICU not doing well and he came after your baby was born and checked on Scotty and we told him he needed to be with you and he said you told him he could come and check on him that said alot for you and him. He was one that cared a great deal about his patient. We give him our recipe for crawfish ettoufe. Heaven got a great friend, father and Doctor.
I also remember in 2004 he came and spoke at Scott's graduation that was a special time to us cause we didn't think Scott would graduate that year.He camein storm too. He holds a special place in our hearts and we will miss him.Scott is now 26 and he is the oldest one that I know of Dr. Sui patient. I remember he talking about the holy land when he explained his surgery in 2004.

Dr. Siu was my first cardiologist. He prayed with me at my appointments, hugged me when when I was discouraged, and never let me give up.
We are praying for his family.
I'm so thankful for Heaven.

Dr Siu was an incredible man who touched my sons life in a way no other dr has ever done. We always knew we needed to set aside about three hours to go see him as he would never just walk in the office and ask hows he doing and leave. He took the time to get to know my family and my son who has a heart issue that he will live with his whole life. he cared about my son as if he was his own and thats a rare quality to find. I didnt have a personal relationship with him but I felt like I did because of his incredible bed side manner. My thoughts an prayers go out to his family. He will truly be missed....

Dr. Siu was a wonderful man. Joyful and smiling, he had a way about him that made you feel at ease and very special. He made the rounds of dr visits a pleasure. And he always left us with a prayer and a blessing. Our prayers will be for God's healing for the grief of his precious family.

Dr Siu was a great man, out of all the cardiologists coming around our newborn daughter in 07, he was the most personable and genuine, which is why we chose him to be our daughters cardiologist, he always took extra time to explain or answer questions or concerns, he will be truly missed and cannot believe he won't be there for our lil girl, I am truly sorry for his families loss and the heart communities loss

We drove all the way from west Texas for a consultation with Dr. Sui for our sons, one of which ended up having a device placed in his heart due to Dr. Sui's diligent guidance and thorough care.. After that visit and those that followed, we would have driven how ever many miles it took to keep seeing him. He was a wonderful and caring Christian doctor whom we will greatly miss but look forward to seeing again in heaven. Until then, Greg, Erinn, Tyler and Lanson.

I am an employee of TCH, Dr.Ben Siu was a very polite and pleasant man, he always had a good spirit about himself. It was such a joy to speak with Dr. Siu when he would call in have a doctor paged, he always had a kind word to say. May his soul rest in peace and may God bless his family from TCH operators.

Ben was such a Dear Friend, Brother and Mentor to me. Through our friendship, he taught me about Life, Love and Laughter. His Christian example and Love for God and Others were infectious. He was always there for me through the Good & Bad times to encourage me with scripture and prayers. Ben has definitely left a legacy for me to follow and be inspired to be a better Christian, a better Man, a better Father, a better Husband, a better Friend and a better Colleague. He will be Dearly Missed here in Hawaii and especially all of us here at Calvary Assembly of God. We are assured that this is not Goodbye, but "See You later" my Dear Friend.

Benjamin and I became friends from the time we were in Standard 1 (Grade 1)at the Anglo-Chinese School in Ipoh, Malaysia. Throughout the years we were in school together, he was always liked and respected by everyone, and he was always close to God. Condolences to Benjamin's loved ones - I know he will always watch over all of you.

I had the honor to train with Ben during residency at TCH. He was a man after God's own heart. I will never forget his sense of humor, humility, and desire to serve everyone with the same compassion, love, and willingness as Christ Himself. He will be missed greatly by everyone whose life he touched. - Lily Lo, MD (Centralia, WA)

I went to school with Ben in the 1970s, attending ACS in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. I have not been in touch with him since he and his family left Malaysia. I had looked forward to communicating with him through e-mail. Time flies and may Ben's soul rest in peace. My condolence to Ben's family.

I had the honor to work with Dr Siu when he first started at Cook Children's. As short as our working relationship was... we had a connection that became a friendship.
I know he is in a wonderful place we call Heaven. I pray the family keeps their faith in God the Father.

I was so suprised and so saddened to hear of Ben's passing away. I met him in Sunday School almost 20 years ago. And while I didn't know Ben really well, I always enjoyed talking with him and always remember fondly his great joy and enthusiasm. Those qualites were still evident when I bumped into him at the airport a few years ago. Beth, you and your boys will be in my prayers. May God grant you his peace.

Ben Siu was an exceptional man who shared his love for life with everyone he met. I loved working with him during his Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital, sharing his joy in heart research, his excitement at every new clinical procedure he learned, and his real compassion to all his patients and their families. During this period, Ben met Beth. They were the perfect loving couple who both loved the Lord. He told us God led him to the best lady he could ever love. Ben will always be remembered by our family. He was with me during serious health problems--not just to ask how I was, but to personally take time to go with me, support me and pray with me. During a long healing period, he would phone me and share encouraging scriptures and even play his guitar to me over the phone-always ending by praying with me. One special gift Ben gave me is a small light for my bedside "for me to remember God's light is always there with me." My words cannot explain how encouriaging Ben was to me and to everyone. He influenced many by the love he shared with others. He truly enjoyed life, was a genuine Christian in every way, and shared joy with everyone. He is definitely with his Lord. My prayers are with Beth and their sons. God bless you.

My husband and I have been attending CCBC regularly for at least a year now. I was always been drawn to Dr Siu. He touched my soul when he would sing his heart out while playing with the orchestra. I hope now he knows of those of us he inspired but never knew. God bless his family.

I am a physician at Cook Childrens and I am profoundly saddened that we have lost this kind, brilliant, generous, and compassionate man. Ben was one of those very special people who impacted so many with his wonderful positive attitude. His patients loved him and his colleagues had the highest respect for him. He was an outstanding physician in every way. And when my husband passed away last year, Ben was so thoughtful, and his words were truly comforting. I thought of Ben as an angel here on this earth. We will miss him terribly. What a beautiful legacy he has left us all.

My heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Ben, who showed by example how to live, pray, and exemplify the life of a Christian. Oswald Chambers wrote that those who have the greatest impact on our lives are the ones who have no idea they are doing it. My prayer is that I can strive to be a purer Christian through thought and deed, like Dr. Ben taught me. Mac Bishop CCBC

I watched the live stream from Christ Chapel of the funeral of Dr. Siu and even though I never met him you could tell by the speeches what a wonderful, caring person he was. But most of all, the last hymn would sum up the greatest of all his acomplishments: 'It Is Well With My Soul'.
To the family: may God be with you now and in the days to come.

Yes - I wanted to share what a blessing it was to be at his funeral and hear all of neat, wonderful things about him. Ben's presence will be so very much missed in all of our lives. I feel blessed to have known him for the time that I did and have learned, and will continue to learn, so much from him about our Lord Jesus.

His legacy lives on and will not fade, his impact will have repercussions far beyond our own mortal understanding. And we will sing and dance with him again one day.

Beth, Nate, and Eli, we have so much love for you and know that you three are so very special, with so much impact on the world yourselves. I know you will continue to be inspiration to us all, as the lives you lead reflect Christ daily. Our prayers are with you.

Ben and I were trainees together in Boston. I hadn't seen and had barely spoken to him since then but remember him as a kind, compassionate and caring physician. What I remember most was that he was not defined by his work at the hospital but rather by his faith, his music and his family. Work was just what he did. My thoughts are with his wife and sons.

Dr. Siu was our son's cardiologist. We were led to him almost immediately during our son's stay at Cook Childrens. Our pastor came to the hospital to offer support and pray with us. While everyone else kindly excused themselves, Dr. Siu stayed and asked if he could join us in prayer. Then after we had all said "Amen", Dr. Siu took it upon himself to say an added prayer for our son and family. It brought joy to our hearts and laughter because of how shocked we all were when he did that. Our pastor talked about it in services for months. There were many lessons to be learned from the "praying doctor". I was almost surprised to see so many people talk about his faith, prayers and kindness. Only becase he had this knack for making people feel so special and utterly blessed. However, I am not because he was an absolute Angel and we will miss him dearly. I offer my sincerest condolences to his entire family. The world was truly blessed to have had Dr. Benjamin Siu.

Dr. Siu had a passion for others and a love of Christ that radiated thru all his relationships with his patients. We have been blessed and will miss his guidance in caring for our son. I pray for his wife and two children. Dear Gracious Heavenly Father I pray for you to wrap your arms around this precious family as they travel this journey. Lord we pray and ask that you especially make your presence know during this difficult time. You are in control you have a plan. Lord thank you for our time with Dr. Siu and pray that we may have the same passion and love of Christ that Dr. Siu had. We pray for forgiveness of our sins. Sometimes the most valuable gift one can give to another is simply his presence. I felt an overwhelming sense of peace and comfort whenever Ben entered the room. He radiated Christ's love and wisdom everywhere he went. I am blessed to have met Ben at Christ Chapel. His kind words of praise, reassurance, and prayers were substantial gifts I will always remember. I am a better person having met him. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten.

I was a patient of doctor Siu's in fact I was suppose to go see him today... I already miss him... I have had him for just over 5 years. The night I heard what had happened, I just couldn't believe it. I keep telling myself that if I just go to bed and wake up tomorrow morning all would be good again. Doctor Siu is the reason I have all the wonderful friends that are like me... My life will never be the same.. I will never find a doctor like him, as caring and loving. Most things doctors as are complicated and hard for me to understand, but he sat down and told me everything, said it to where I understood it... I will never forget him and all the work he did for us kids. He will always be my number one doctor. I love you Dr. Siu and I always will.

Dr. Siu was my son's cardiologist. He may have been his oldest patient as he is now 21 years old. We could not willingly leave and go to another doctor because he meant so much to us and we trusted him. He prayed with us the first time we met. He always told me stories about his sweet boys and wonderful wife. He also shared pictures of the mission trips. I know we are blessed to have known him. My heart goes out to the entire family and his coworkers, patients and friends. He was truly a Christian husband, father, doctor and friend. He will be missed.

Dr. Siu was my son's cardiologist in the hospital last year after he had open heart surgery. Every time Dr. Siu walked in the room it brightened our day. Beth and family,
I worked with Dr Siu when he was in WV. He traveled from Morgantown to St Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg. He spoke often of the love he had for God and his family. His love and passion for his vocation was evident in the way he treated his patients, their family, and their condition. I saw he lived his life as Christ centered, and now he reaped his reward, sadly too soon for those he left behind, but he is in Glory.

Dr. Sui is a Godly man who I will always remember as the individual who appeared to play a guitar in the vertical position in the Christ Chapel Bible Church orchestra led by Louis Harris. He for has left behind a great vacuum and some very big shoes to fill in his medical practice, he role in the church orchestra and as a beloved husband. My prayers go out to the family and his friends and close co-workers at Cook Children's. May the Lord Jesus pour out a blessing upon the family and provided for healing in this unexpected death which in all accounts is random. My prayers are upon the family at this time. Dr. Siu meant so much to us. When our son was diagnosed with a rare heart defect, it was Dr. Siu who met with us, prayed with us, held us and wept with us. He had a gentle way of pointing us to God as he counseled us and cared for our little one. He would look to God first as he helped to bring healing to our son. Words truly cannot express the sadness I feel for Ben's family, his CCBC family, and the medical community and patients who worked with him and were so blessed to have him as his doctor. I never heard an angry, unfriendly word spoken by Ben. His love for our Lord was demonstrated daily in word and deed, and I was in awe of his talents medically, spiritually, and his humanity. He is walking with our Lord-may his friends and especially Beth, Nate, and Eli feel the comfort of God as he wraps you in His arms in comfort.

Dr. Siu, aside from thoroughly giving us an understanding of the complications our infant daughter was facing, comforted us. He prayed over our child, Abigail, before her heart surgery and on our follow up visits. They were the kind of prayers you don't lift your head up from without tears. I didn't know him that well but I'm certain where he is now. He was wise, genuine, caring and our family was blessed by knowing him. It is evident in this guest book that he touched many more lives that just ours. We will be praying for his family.

Dr Siu was an amazing person. I worked with him at Cook and my heart broke when I heard of his accident and very untimely death. I feel very blessed to have known him, and I know his patients couldn't have asked for a better doctor. Not only was he extremely competent, but more than that he truly loved and cared for the children and their families. To his family, thank you for sharing him with so many that needed him. God bless you all.

Beth, Nate and Eli - may God's grace and love bring you comfort at this time. Ben's influence on us has such a profound impact that it would be impossible to find the earthly words in tribute. We are saddened by your loss but so grateful to rejoice with all who were blessed by this wonderful man, this messenger from God, and with all heaven as he now surely rests in Glory - praise our Lord!

Blessings, always - Cynthia and John Firestone

The entire professional community is shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Siu. Ben always had a smile and a genuinely-warm greeting for everybody he came in contact with. Being in a different medical field than him, I was in awe of his academic & medical accomplishments, but what made him even more impressive was his compassion for everybody else he came in contact with. He was never "too important" to help with even the most mundane of tasks. To the point that he was usually the first to pitch in. A rarity in today's world. Our prayers are with his family, knowing he is with our Lord at this time.

Over the years Dr Siu has been at Christ Chapel, we have enjoyed seeing his contageous smile, cheerful countenance and willingness to be part of the work of the Lord in so many ways. Unknown to us, he shared his heart for missions and taking the "healing hands of Jesus" to the world.

It is difficult to express, not only personally, but also for the entire Church family, how he will be missed, because there are so many ways.

We will miss his musical talent in the orchestra and classical guitar guild.

I have heard resounding stories of compassion and professionalism through Cook's Childrens Hospital staff and patients. He must have been a wonderful care giver and surgeon.

He was truly a man of many passions; but most of all, his passion for Christ tops them all.

Ben was a great man that will be missed by all who knew him. I first met Ben during the CCBC production of "The Music Man." He was always incredibly encouraging to me and to everyone in the show. Every encounter I had with Ben was uplifting and left me wanting to be more like him. He was an absolute blessing to me and to our church.

Dr. Siu joined his family in church each morning after the music. They sat just a few rows from us in church. It is such a shame that a young man such as Dr. Siu could be lost to his family, church and the children at Cooks. I have heard such wonderful things about him, I pray his family will be surrounded with love and support.

Dr. Ben made beautiful music unto the Lord and I would not be surprised that he is still doing just that! Dr. Ben was a great encourager! He repeatedly offered words of cheer and affirmation to me as he did to many. May the comfort and encouragment of Christ be with family, friends, and colleagues as we mourn this loss. Thank you, Lord, for Dr. Ben's life! Blessed be the name of the Lord!

We feel greatly blessed that we had the opportunity to be blessed by the life and love of Ben. He has inspired us in so many ways which I suppose could be summed up by saying he loved God and he lived his life passing that love on to others. How wonderful to know that now Ben is in the presence of the One that he loved so much.

I am very sad at the loss of Dr. Siu. He was an amazing doctor and worked wonders with my grandson Will. Before Will went into surgery, Dr. Siu prayed with our family. I trusted his advice above anyone else. He will be greatly missed. I am so grateful that he was Will's doctor for as long as he was. Prayers to the family for strength and comfort. Although we have only known Dr. Siu for a little over a year, he made a lasting impression on our family. He was our son, Aidan's cardiologist, and he always took the time to talk with us, even when he was busy rushing through the hospital. I will never forget the time he hugged us, prayed for us and talked with us in the NICU before we took our son home. He told us that he would do all he could from his experience and knowledge to make decisions regarding Aidan's care, but there was more at work -- and that was the hand of God over all of it. He stepped in when my son was struggling and needed early surgery, compassionately guiding us and helping us to understand the process. He did not just treat our son's heart condition, but also saw to it that he had what he needed to grow and develop in every area. My mother and I had the opportunity to see him play in his church's Christmas concert in 2010, and I remember enjoying watching him play, because he seemed to be having such a good time up there! Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and those at CCHC who worked closely with him. His absence will leave a hole in the heart of everyone who knew him well.

Though I mainly admired the heart and ministry of Ben Siu from the pew, he was an inspiration to me for a number of reasons. I could see his dedication in his music and his heart of praise to even sing along as he played. Also, I know that he was a blessing in ministry to many, locally and abroad. I am thankful for his mentoring to Anson D., for one. I know that his love for God and others will have lasting affect on many for now and to eternity. I Cor. 13:12 "...now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face, for now we know in part, but then we shall know fully, as we are fully known." Praise God for His eternal hope. I pray God's comfort for those who remain that you would find God's peace and purpose to carry the light as Ben Siu did.

Dr. Siu has been a wonderful cardiologist for our 4 year old daughter. He was recommended to us when she was days old and we have known he was the best ever since we met him 4 years ago. He always took the time to answer our questions and spend time just talking with our daughter even if he had 50 more patient's waiting to be seen. He will be missed that is for sure. May he rest in peace.

Thanking the good Lord that Dr. Siu was able to help so many children during his life. We mourn the loss of such a gentle soul, but know he has returned to the Father who loved him more than we could ever imagine. Eternal life is what we are promised and we are positive Dr. Siu left his earthly body and gained his angel wings instantly. We will look for his presence each time we are at the hospital. He'll be there, in angelic form. Until we see you again in Paradise, watch over each of the kiddos who's hearts need mending.

Well done, good and faithful servant.
Enter into the joy of your Master.

We are one of Siu's neighbors. Ben stopped me in the fall-he noticed many cars at our house. I told him my mother was very ill and his response was, "We will pray for her." He stopped me weeks later, asked how my mother was. She was better-with a smile he said, "Well, we have been praying for her."He was such a kind man. All of the neighborhood will miss seeing him on his bike. May the Siu family feel God's loving arms and feel His peaceful grace during this time.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Dr. Siu was my son Logan Shoup's cardiologist. Dr. Siu and Logan shared a special bond, one that I know will never be replaced. He always took time to answer our questions and listen to Logan and discuss his future care. Dr. Siu became family to us. I know our hearts are broken. I will keep you and your children and family in our prayers. I have always said if there was any man made for a certian profession in this world it was Dr. Siu. I know they must be rejoicing in heaven to have such an amazing man entering the gates, but I know here he will be deeply missed. Lots of love and prayers. Beth and Logan Shoup

Dr. Benjamin Siu was a very special person. He was always there for my family, and was exceptional with my son. When my son was born we found out about his heart problems, and that's when we met Dr. Siu for the first time. Immediately I knew I wanted him to be my baby's cardiologist. The love, hope and prayers he shared with us will never be
forgotten. Dr. Siu will always be in our hearts and his family in our prayers...
