Betty Hatch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 11, 2025.
Woodland Hills - Betty "Bett" Campbell Hatch, 84, died at her home in Woodland Hills, CA on Thursday, November 13, 2025. She was born on March 14, 1941, in Bossier City, Louisiana, to Foster Campbell Sr. and Rubye Grigsby Campbell.

Bett met her husband, Richard "Dick" Hatch, on a blind date while he was stationed at Barksdale AFB. They raised their children, Susan and Evan, in California, Virginia, and North Carolina before moving to a Los Angeles retirement community in 2023.

A lifelong learner and educator, Bett graduated from the University of Arkansas and taught K-12 English from the 1960s-1990s. During that time, Bett earned her master's in education at UNC-Greensboro and later taught organizational communications at Elon University. Always curious, she took classes well into her 70s - including documentary film at Duke University, law coursework at NC Central University, creative writing at UCLA, and religious studies through Sewanee: University of the South.

Bett was active in her community. She worked many years at Family Abuse Services of Alamance County and volunteered regularly through her church and P.E.O. International. She also acted in numerous community theater productions and loved all forms of music, dance, theater, and art. Known for her impeccable eye, Bett always dressed to the nines and filled her home with art and antiques - making it as stylish and beautiful as she was.

Bett is survived by her husband, Dick Hatch; son Evan Hatch (Tasha); daughter Susan Corry (Chris); granddaughter Caroline Corry; brother Foster Campbell Jr.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on February 7, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, 320 East Davis Street, Burlington, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CrossRoads (crossroadscares.org) in Bett's memory.

Mom was a strong, intelligent woman who was always learning about herself and the world at large, then sharing it with us. I never once doubted her love for me, and I'm so lucky that she was my mom.
