A trailblazer from the start, Betty Jean Pete was the eldest of her siblings: Vera Lee Pete, Cleveland Pete, and Jesse Pete. At the age of 18, she left her hometown to pursue her education in Galveston, Texas, where she became the first member of the Pete family to graduate from high school.

Betty married Roy on June 25, 1953. Together, they raised three children: Ronald, Ray, and Rose Jean Noble.

Betty's determination and commitment to learning never wavered. In 1976, she earned her nursing degree from Los Angeles City College (LACC), and a few years later achieved her Registered Nurse certification-all while raising a family and supporting her oldest son through college.

Betty took immense pride in her role as matriarch and in nurturing not only her children, but also her grandchildren: Roslynn, McKinley, Robert, and Ryane. She also greatly enjoyed time spent with her three great-grandchildren: Reginald, Reese, and Lavaughn Jr.

A devout child of God, Betty's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Known for her wisdom, she often reminded misbehaving grandchildren: "God doesn't like ugly!"

Betty dedicated more than four decades of her life to nursing at Daniel Freeman Hospital in Los Angeles. Her compassionate care and steadfast presence touched countless lives throughout her career.

Eventually, Betty retired in 1996 to focus on her health and spend more time with those she loved most, her family.

Betty and Roy's union was one of enduring love and partnership. Roy, born on December 13, 1929, in Beaumont, Texas, was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He passed from this life on February 4, 2010.

May their memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved them.
