FLORENCE — Betty Lou Parrott, widow of Eugene William Parrott Jr., died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, in a local nursing home after an illness. She was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Florence, the daughter of the late Bertha Martin Hickey and James Edward Hickey.

Betty Lou was raised in Florence, where she graduated from Florence High School. She was a cheerleader and played basketball. She attended Limestone College and worked before retirement as a bookkeeper for Dorothy Green Florist. She was a member of The Beach Shaggers Hall of Fame and Beach Living Legend Association. She was a member of the Gamecock Club and supported Gamecock football for more than 45 years. She enjoyed playing golf with her husband and friends.

She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, and had compassion for everyone.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include a daughter, Connie L. (Bubba) Waldrup of Batesville, Miss.; a son, Eugene Chip W. (Jeannie) Parrott III of Florence; grandchildren, Susan Hardee and her husband, Carey, of Batesville, Miss., Christy Waldrup of Batesville, Miss., Jennifer Colbert of Granada, Miss., and Taylor H. Parrott of Florence; three great-grandchildren, Bryce and Brittain Colbert and Addison Hardee; a brother, W.E. Bubba Hickey of Florence; and a sister, Betty Nichols of Charlotte, N.C.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Edna Smith, Mary Elizabeth Carroll and Evelyn Grimsley.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Nursing Home for their excellent care.
