Betty Shryock Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 1, 2025.
Betty Kay (Brown) Shryock, age 83 of Roswell, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Our beloved wife, sister, aunt, mom, grandma and great grandma will be greatly missed by family and friends.

She was born on March 4, 1942, in Aline, Oklahoma to the late Wilford and Ruth Brown. Betty went to the Carmen-Dacoma High School, and worked at the local bank. She also proudly held the prestigious title of Miss Carmen Oklahoma! Betty graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1965 with a degree in Business Education.

Betty stayed home and raised her children until they were teens, and spent many hours volunteering in their classrooms, library and other events. She started out first as a volunteer, then as an employee at the Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, working with sponsors and donors and helped with many charity events. She then worked as an Office Manager for a Manufacturer's Representative Agency in Plymouth, Michigan for several years. She retired after moving to Georgia in 1990.

Betty & Duane met in college, and married in Alva, Oklahoma in July 1962. Duane started with Ford Motor Company in 1966, a career that took them to Livonia, Michigan; Dallas, Texas, and then back to Livonia where they lived before moving to Roswell, Georgia in 1990.

Betty's greatest passion in life was her family. She and Duane helped take care of all five grandkids during their infancy and pre-school years, and beyond. She has so many of her children and grandchildren's friends who refer to her as "Grandma Betty." As a proud Mountain Park Elementary grandma, she volunteered at the library and was loved by students and staff. She was very generous, supportive, funny and wise, and loved spending time with her family and friends. Betty loved music and was a talented piano player. And she was a great cook too! Her chicken fried steak and gravy was the best around, and she made an amazing Chocolate Texas Sheetcake.

Betty is survived by Duane Shryock, her husband of 62 years; her daughter Pamela Shryock Brennen and son-in-law Toby Brennen of Roswell, and son James Shryock and daughter-in-law Shannon Shryock of Roswell. Her beloved grandchildren Amanda Brennen Marsicek and husband Gary Marsicek of Woodstock, Georgia, and Morgan Brennen, Miles Shryock, Jackson Shryock and Brooklyn Shryock of Roswell. She was so blessed to be a first-time great grandma last May to great-granddaughter Olivia Kay Marsicek. She is also survived by her brother Freddie Brown (Marilyn) of Alva, Oklahoma, sister Ronda Stewart of Fairview, Oklahoma, sister-in-laws Frances Shryock (late Kenneth) of Pampa, Texas, and Sara Meyer (Terry) of Mesa, Arizona, and so many nieces, nephews and other family and friends who were blessed to know her.

A "Celebration of Life" will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, in her honor, and to keep Betty's memory alive for decades to come, you may donate to The Shryock Family Foundation. This Foundation contributes to charities that Betty & Duane supported. You may also donate to a fund close to your heart in her name.

I didn´t know Betty long. My husband entered the facility where Betty resided . He was only there 5 months until he passed , but each day I got a chance to talk to Betty and become her friend of sorts. I wish I had known her before but she was so fun to be around. I love her family and am thankful she was in my life. God be with those she left behind .

Sending love and support and most especially prayers for all those close to this dear lady. It may not seem so now but memories will sustain you during those times when the ache seems unbearable. Her legacy thru her grandkids cannot be denied.
