Bill Franks Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 12, 2017.
Bill Franks/Bill Franks passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, July 8, 2017. He was born William Jacob Franks III on May 13, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana to William Jacob Franks, Jr. and Helen Franks. His parents were in the military, and he spent time during his youth at air force bases in England, Germany, and Austin. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a medic from 1973-1976. After being discharged from the Army, he spent most of his life in and around the San Antonio area. He worked in the medical field most of his life and retired from University Hospital in San Antonio. He loved to go on adventures in the outdoors, and had many an interesting adventure with friends and family members all around the Texas Hill Country. He especially liked spending time with friends and family at Medina Lake northwest of San Antonio. He moved to Nacogdoches in 2006 to be closer to his family. He was a kind and generous person and was well known for going out of his way to be of help to family, friends, and neighbors. He had many friends at the Nacogdoches Senior Center, and was a frequent caller on KSFA radio and made a lot of friends there as well. He is survived by his older brother Jim Franks (Cheryl) and younger sister Aggie Franks, and nephews Thomas Franks and B.J. Shuler, all of San Antonio. In addition, he is survived by his son Russell Franks, his daughter Jody Franks, his good friend and ex-wife Dalyce Franks, his daughter-in-law Mercedes Franks, his grandson Patrick Franks, all of Nacogdoches. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law Bill Shuler, his brother Raymond Franks, and his best friend Stanley Caruso. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but we know that he is up in Heaven doing what he liked most: sitting next to a barbecue grill, playing his guitar, and singing songs with his mom, dad, Bill, Ray, and Stan. A memorial service will be held at Austin Heights Baptist Church at 2806 Appleby Sand Rd. in Nacogdoches on Thursday, July 13th at 11:00 am. In lieu of any flower donations, we would ask that you donate school supplies to your local public schools. Our Dad lived a life of service to others and would love knowing that, even in death, he was helping our youth.

Bill worked with my husband at University Hospital and I remember him being such a kind person, whom my husband always spoke well of and said he would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it.
Rest In Peace, Bill. My thoughts & prayers are with his family & friends.
