Bill Vrentas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2016.
Most people don't get to write their own obituary, but I will try. . .Jean Vrentas, Bill's Beautiful Brown-Eyed Wife met Bill G. Vrentas Sr. at Heaven's Gate on December 19, 2016 along with his parents (Michael & Edith Vrentas), including his son Bill Vrentas, Jr., sister-in-law (Beatrice Vrentas) and members/friends of his family.
Remember, Jean passed away March 16, 2011 and during our 60 years and six months together we had the opportunity to travel the world together. There are very few couples, who have been married that long, have the unique experience to travel thru Domestic, International, Far East and Latin American countries. Jean had a saying, when asked if she wanted to go, she answered "Have Master Card will Travel". Bill's in-laws, (Marie & Lloyd Castle), along with family members were present to greet Bill. I will certainly miss seeing the beautiful needle-point masterpieces that Jean created during our life together. You must remember Jean was a jack-of-all trades and master of many, but most notably Jean was the gifted artist in our family.
To carry on our living legacy, Bill & Jean raised and is survived by five talented children and their partners. Mike Vrentas and wife Cheri (Lee's Summit, MO), Gregory L. & Andrea L. Vrentas (Austin, TX), daughter Nancy Vause (Frederick, MD), Angela Vrentas (Odessa, MO), Rick Vrentas (Brighton, CO), and Marilyn J. Vrentas Gunn and husband Ross (Phoenix, AZ). Throughout their life together they attempted to teach family the values of honesty, loyalty, integrity, respect, personal courage, generosity, devotion to family and God. Greg said, at one time, that a baseball score of 600% is not bad for a family with kids. Also, we believe the freedom to follow their dreams. We both loved and were proud of our five children, 15 precious grandchildren and 14 beautiful great-grand babies, as we hope they carry the Vrentas values and traditions into the future. We were truly blessed by special family who will keep our memory alive and who provided such encouragement, assistance and inspiration during our life together: Adopted Sister Jo Ann and George Fotopulos (Grain Valley, MO); Kathi and Angie Vrentas Heller (Chicago, IL); Michele Vrentas (Easton, PA), Michael Vrentas III (Linnwood, WA); Beckie and Tom Brownback (Kansas City, KS). This included special family members: Judy Thomas, Cindy Garcia (Belton, MO) and Patty Rhodes (Raymore, MO) who were like "Guardian Angels", (always there when problems occurred).
The Vrentas family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 29, followed by a celebration of Bill's life from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. An interment service will immediately follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery where Bill's body will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Jean Vrentas, parents Michael and Edith Vrentas, son Bill G. Vrentas, Jr. and sister-in-law Beatrice Vrentas.
Friends and family are invited to share special memories during the visitation and/or celebration and memorial service at the funeral home or on Bill's Memorial website: http://memorialwebsites.legacy.com/Vrentas/homepage.aspx.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests friends consider making memorial contributions to the Kansas City Hospice House in memory of Bill, http://www.kansascityhospice.org/ or to the American Heart Association Kansas City http://www.americanheart.org.
Arrangements under the direction of Mt Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, Kansas City, MO.
