Billy Williams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 20, 2025.
Billy Duane Williams, Sr., 89, died June 18, 2025, at his home in St. Francisville. He was born in 1936 to Eugene and Hattie McDonnieal Williams, in Greenville, MS. The family moved to St. Francisville when Billy was in the 9th grade.

Billy attended Sunflower Junior College on a football scholarship but transferred to Southeastern University in Hammond after one year to be closer to his sweetheart, Helen. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southeastern, and a Masters + 30 from LSU.

Billy married his High School sweetheart, Helen Marie Kendrick, on a spectacularly cool day in August of 1956. Their union was blessed with six children who adored their precious Daddy.

Billy was an educator who touched many lives as a teacher, coach, guidance counselor, and principal. After twenty years in public education, he took the role of Principal at Central Private School in 1976. Following over a decade as the headmaster there, he continued his career at Parkview Baptist School, False River Academy, Wilkinson County Christian Academy, and another few years at Central Private, before finally retiring to his home in St. Francisville in 2002.

He is survived by his sweetheart of 73 years, Helen, six children, Lori Williams of St. Francisville, Billy Duane Williams, Jr., of Tennessee, Kathi Cowen and her husband Chuck of Central, Bonnie Kirkwood and her husband John of Pride, Kellye Moody and her husband Jeff of Bluff Creek, Jaime DeJean and her husband Christian of St. Francisville, eighteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Bonnie Langford of Jayess, MS, and three brothers, Donald Williams of Greenville, MS, Gerald Williams of Baton Rouge, LA, and Doug Williams of Bluemont, VA.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 29 at 2:00 at First Baptist Church St. Francisville, with a service to follow at 3:00. Interment will be held in a private ceremony at a later date.

Uncle Wingy was a giant in my life. As a coach, he could be rough, but he was trying to build character, work ethic, and competitiveness to achieve. This carried over more gently to his private life and as a mentor to lots of youngsters who are better off because of Uncle Wingy. He was, and will always be someone who got my utmost respect. Heaven gained another wonderful soul in Uncle Wingy. And, my Aunt and Godmother Helen is a true Saint in St. Francisville.

Coach Billy had a profound influence on my youngest son and daughter at CPS. He knew when to reign kids in and when to let them run. He was a man who earned respect and returned it. I´m very sorry for for his family´s loss. I pray our Lord will comfort you and assuage your grief in the sure knowledge you all will be with him again God´s eternal kingdom.

With deepest condolences,

My heart broke again after losing my dad and then loosing getting the word about Mr. Billy. He was the best coach I ever played for. He treated me as if I were his second son. He would push me and Duane harder than and other players. He would hit the ball trying to get it past either one of us. Everyone else got the easy balls. He told me and Duane to take two strikes before we could swing our bats at anything. He made us better players and better men. I had told when we had some time to just talk. I told him that he was my second Dad. That I loved him and that I would always look up to him. Now Mr. Billy and my dad are in a dugout in heaven. Dad keeping the books and Mr. Billy doing what he loved to do. Coaching his players to victory. He also taught us and would lead us to our final victory in Christ. I will miss him so very much. I wish I would have visited him more while he was here on this earth. I will be looking forward to seeing him again in heaven. I want to give my deepest condolences to all his family especially Mrs. Helen. You are special lady that I have had in my life. May God bless you and keep you.

My sincere condolences are extended to the Williams family, especially Mrs. Helen. The love between she and Mr. Billy was so evident. Everyone hopes to have exactly what they achieved. Their children all had wonderful examples of the necessary understanding, love and compromise required to make marriage successful! All of you will be in my prayers as you continue to move forward in acceptance of life without your Patriarch, but know that the mark your father left upon our lives is indelible. He lives on in you all! Love to you all!

Mr. Billy was truly an amazing principal at Central Private School. He touch the lives of many and he always knew the right words in order to convey a much needed message to the children in his care. His kind, insightful words were a great comfort to me when I was trying to navigate my teenage years. I have very fond memories of him and his leadership.

My heart goes out to Ms. Helen and her family. I will pray for each of you as you navigate the coming days.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mr Billy was such a wonderful man. I will never forget his kindness when I was in such a dark period in my life, and the words he spoke to me. He was truly a Christian, never judged, but gave me words of faith and hope. I loved him for this and what he did for my children during this time. Lifting the family and loved ones up in my prayers as he rejoices in life with our Savior.
