Bob D. Merryman 78, of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Hot Springs, passed away November 29, 2014 in Louisville. He was born February 19, 1936 in Hot Springs to Jim and Edith Dyer Merryman.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Bette Ann Stone Merryman; and his brother Lt. General James H. Merryman.
After graduating from Hot Springs High School, Bob attended the University of Arkansas, Henderson State University, and graduated with a degree in engineering from Southern Methodist University. In 1960 he moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan to work for Norge Manufacturing, and later Ft. Smith, Arkansas. General Electric called upon him in 1966 to be a product engineer, where he served until 1998. Bob loved his family and friends, and really enjoyed his poker club, bowling leagues, and the Kappa Sigma Kappa fraternity reunions. As a believer in Jesus Christ, Bob is now a resident of heaven! He was a member of West Broadway Baptist Church.
Cherishing his memory are his daughters, Robin Lynn Kelty (Edward) of Lexington, Kentucky and Susan Dawn Horstman (Larry) of Louisville, Kentucky. Bob was very proud of his four grandchildren, Brent, Connor and Tessa Kelty and Austin Horstman; great-grandson, Christopher Kelty, sister-in-law, Jane Merryman, nephew, Jim Merryman; and countless friends.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Gross Funeral Home chapel with Brother Herbert Watt, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday and from 10:00 am until service time at Gross Funeral Home.

I worked with Bob at GE in Bloomington when he was developing a new ice maker design. He was a great mentor and always put his best efforts forward. All these years later and I still remember him as one of the best people I ever worked with. My sympathies to his family at this time.

I have many pleasant memories with Bob since we went to Hot Springs High School together.
The ones I remember the most is my Marching Band memories. Something always going on in the Band room or on the field, Bob never missed a performance. I already miss his funny emails he sent me for years.
May God Bless the Family

I worked with Bob at GE in Louisville. You could always have a spirited conversation with him. One amusing thing I will remember. When you went to his desk, what grabbed your attention was what was on the shelves above his desk -- there were all his past artificial hip replacements, and there were several. I thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to work with him.

Well, the "Eagle" has taken flight! Oh, how he will be missed! Always with me are the memories of road trips to Florida, CB conversations, talk of Playboy Bunnies on the hotel rooftop and holiday parties at your house! Crazy what we remember from childhood; we remember those we love! Our best to all his friends and family, especially Susan and Robin. I send you love and peaceful thoughts.

Susan and Larry, I am at a lost for words. Your father was a special person to me and I truly enjoyed the times that I spent with him while he was a part of the Atria family. I am especially glad that I was able to spend time with him while he was at Baptist East. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. I am truly going to miss him.
