Bobby Hawkins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 13, 2024.
Surrounded by his loving family, Bobby Gale "Bob" Hawkins peacefully passed away on August 11, 2024, at the age of 83 in Fort Myers, Florida. Born in 1941 in Alabama to J.W. and Carrie Hawkins, Bob lived a life filled with love, curiosity, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Bob was a man of warmth and kindness, known for his playful sense of humor and enduring optimism. He approached life with a deep curiosity, always eager to understand the world around him - how things worked, and why they were the way they were. His modest wisdom spoke volumes. He was an exceptionally engaged father and grandfather, always sparking curiosity with thought-provoking questions or delighting in imaginative activities that brought joy to those around him. People instantly connected with Bob, his warmth and genuine interest making everyone feel immediately at ease.

Bob's greatest joy in life was his family. He was a proud father to James Hawkins and Pamela Baeza, and a cherished grandfather to Anne Florence Hawkins and James Morgan Hawkins, who held a special place in his heart. To his grandchildren, he was affectionately known as "Pito," a nickname that reflected the deep bond they shared. His love for his family was evident in everything he did with them, but even more so in *how* he did it with them. He also enjoyed his relationship with his son-in-law, Christian, Pamela's husband.

A proud veteran, Bob served honorably in the United States Air Force as a mechanic for a B-52 bomber squadron. During the tense days of the Cuban Missile Crisis, he played a critical role as part of a small crew that flew a B-52 bomber, armed with nuclear warheads, around the globe as part of the U.S. strategic efforts. His service to his country was a source of great pride, and he carried those experiences with him throughout his life.

After his honorable discharge, Bob transitioned to a successful career at TWA, where he worked as a Lead Mechanic. Known for his meticulous work and exceptional performance, Bob received numerous letters of commendation throughout his career. His colleagues respected him not only for his technical skills but also for his integrity and dedication. Bob retired from TWA in 1995, leaving behind a legacy of excellence.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Hawkins, his parents, J.W. and Carrie Hawkins, his brother Steve Hawkins, and his sister Lillian Grace. He is survived by his children, James and Pamela, his brother J.W. Hawkins Jr., and his cherished grandchildren, Florence Hawkins and Morgan Hawkins. To his daughter Pamela, he was affectionately "El Daddo," and to his son James, simply "Dad." Each of these names, like the nickname "Pito" used by his grandchildren, carried with them a world of memories, love, and deep meaning.

Private services will be held by invitation only to honor Bob's life and legacy. He will be remembered not only as a devoted father, grandfather, and brother but also as a man whose warmth and positivity touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Bob's memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who loved him.

May his soul find eternal peace.

I only know Bobby through Pammy´s deep love and affection for him. I know he will be missed terribly and that my friend´s heart is breaking. He was a great "El Daddo" as evidenced by his sweet daughter. My heart felt condolences to all who loved him.
