Bobby Lee Shuler, age 69, of Kingsport passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Indian Path Medical Center. He was born on February 1, 1941 to the late Edgar Franklin and Mary Parsons Shuler. He was of the Baptist faith. Bob was a retired truck driver and enjoyed traveling, camping and woodworking. He volunteered as a campground host for the National Park Service and the state of Alaska, including Elkmont and Cades Cove Campgrounds in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, Big Bend National Park in Texas and Deep Creek Lake in Ninilchik, Alaska. He also enjoyed spending time volunteering with the Sullivan South High School Rebel Band and watching Sullivan South High School Football. He never met a stranger. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jackie Ray Shuler. He is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Carolyn Anderson Shuler; sons, Jeremy, an Aerospace major at MTSU, Tommy and wife Sherry of Kingsport, and Phillip and wife Linda of Nashville, TN; daughters, Robin Dixon and husband, Paul of Kingsport and Wendie Shuler of Cincinnati, OH; sisters, Judy Penley of Fall Branch and Phyllis DeBord and husband Elmer of Kingsport; sister-in-law, Freda Shuler of Kingsport and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by special niece, Holly Penley and an “adopted� son, Matthew Wilkerson. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow with Reverend Ron Owens officiating. Music will be provided by the Higher Ground Quartet. Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Section W, with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office serving as Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Shuler, Matthew Wilkerson, Jerry Fleenor, Agustin Ornelas, Andy Anderson, and Ron Hunter, MD. Honorary pallbearers will be Herbert Ladley, MD, Mike Lowe and Pat Gibson. The family would like to thank Drs. Hunter and Ladley, Pat Gibson and their staff for the excellent medical care provided to Bob. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Jeremy Shuler’s Flight Account at MTSU.
