Carol Marie Dawson Obituary
Carol Marie Dawson (Manner), 82, passed away on July 15, 2024, in Burtonsville, MD. Born on January 19, 1942, in Greenburg, PA, to Ruth Palmer and Richard Neil Manner. She had two Brothers, Glenn Russell (Mary) and Richard Neil Manner (Gail).

Carol attended school in 1948-1951 at Pleasant Unity Grade School in Pleasant Unity PA, while her family lived in Greensburg, PA. She then attended school in 1952-1955 at John Nevines Andrews in Takoma Park, MD while her family lived in Takoma Park, MD. Her family then moved back to PA, and she attended school again in 1955-1956 at Pleasant Unity Grade School. In 1957-1958 she attended school at Plainfield Academy in Plainfield, NJ. She then attended school in 1958-1960 at Mount Vernon Academy in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Here she made lifelong friends.

In September of 1962 she was married to Harlan Ray "Pops" Dawson, Sr. They had three children Harlan Ray Dawson, Jr. on March 27, 1963. She then had David Wayne Dawson (Diane) on March 5, 1964. She then had Darrell L. Dawson on January 12, 1967. She was also survived by three Daughter in laws, Linda Ruth Dawson, Tammy Rothgeb Dawson and Chayna Bryant-Dawson.

Carol also had a sister in law, Joyce Hart and a brother in law, Clifford(Jean) Dawson.

Carol had so much love to give and she proved this not just with her sons but taking in their friends in need. Emil David and Scott Hemme lived with them from time to time and Carol saw them as family as much as any blood relation.

She had 6 grandchildren, Christopher, Ashley, David Richard, Billy Ray, Kevin Dawson and Tiffany (Dawson) Burdynski. She also has two great Grandchildren, Drako and Decklan Dawson. She was always so happy to see any of her grandchildren and loved hearing about their interests and lives. Holding her first great-grandson brought a smile to her face that was missing some since she had to stop working.

She also had many nieces and nephews. Kelly and John (Carrie)and Thomas (Angela Smithson fiancé) and Greg (Esther) Manner, and Steven Goetzinger and Keith Easley and Erin (Dean) Dawson Miller. She also had grand nieces and nephews. Emily, Grace, Sadie, and Sebastian, Meredith, Elise, Thomas, and Lennox Manner. She also had numerous longtime friends and other family members.

During her IVIG treatments she received at Kaiser, she established a great relationship with the nursing staff that took care of her. She also had three wonderful doctors who cared for her on a regular basis. Dr. Seth Flagg and Dr. Andrew Dutka and Dr. Melvin Kong. The Kaiser staff was so wonderful and always helpful for her and the family.

She worked in the cafeteria at Columbia Union College where she met Harlan, her husband. She later began babysitting at her home for many years. She then started cleaning houses, first with an agency and then she started her own business. She did this until she had to retire due to a disease called Myasthenia gravis. She battled that disease along with other diseases for over 17 years.

Losing her son, Darrell and her husband was hard on Carol, but she relied on her family here in Maryland and began weekly cookouts or dinners to keep close. These weekend dinners were a highlight of her week until she had to move from that house. These dinners allowed family, blood or not to catch up and stay close.

She will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who knew her. The family would like to thank everyone who supported and said prayers and sent loving wishes during all her rough times during her disease. Carol was special and we appreciate everyone who helped her during her difficulties with her MG.
