Carrie Turner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 17, 2025.
Mrs. Carrie Turner (Green), age 83, transitioned to Glory on June 1, 2025, in West Hartford, Connecticut. Born on January 28, 1942, in Forkland, Alabama, she lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.

Carrie was the daughter of Jessie and Eliza Green and one of many siblings in a large and loving family. Throughout her life, she remained deeply connected to her roots and carried forward the values instilled in her from an early age-compassion, resilience, and service.

A devoted wife to the late Deacon Joe Turner Sr., Carrie was a pillar of strength for her family. She was the proud mother of Joe (Lia) Turner Jr. and Brenda Turner. She also lovingly remembered her children who preceded her in death: Darnyell L. Turner-Jones, Robert Turner, and Curtis Turner.

Carrie's legacy continues through her grandchildren-Shetia Turner, Jarel Turner, Shereese Jones, and Janiya Turner-and great-granddaughter Aubrey Seery. Her nurturing spirit lives on in each of them. She is also remembered with love by her sisters Isabelle Gulley, Frances Glen, Mary Mims, and Rebecca Monroe; her brother Augustus Green; and is reunited in rest with her parents and siblings Jessie Benison, John Green, Eugene Green, McKinley Geen, Willie Green, Herman Green, Elister Campbell, and Alice Green.

Carrie's life was one of service-to both people and purpose. For over 40 years she served faithfully as a Deaconess and Missionary at Antioch Baptist Church. Her dedication included being a loyal member of the church kitchen committee where she prepared meals with care and joy until dementia gradually limited her ability to serve. Her contributions were not just acts of duty but expressions of deep love for others.

Cooking was one of Carrie's greatest joys. Whether preparing meals for her family or for the children at Stark County HeadStart where he was employed for 25+ years or anyone else fortunate enough to cross her path, she poured love into every dish. Her kitchen was a place of warmth where nourishment came not only from food but from fellowship.

Carrie also found happiness in tending to flowers during the summer months and took great pride in decorating both the inside and outside of her home for Christmas-a season she celebrated with enthusiasm that brought joy to all who visited.

Those who knew Carrie remember her as a source of unwavering strength and boundless compassion. Her kindness offered comfort during difficult times; her empathy provided guidance when it was most needed. She gave love freely-without judgment-and received it just as openly.

Her memory will continue to inspire all who were touched by her grace and generosity. May those who loved her find peace in remembering the light she brought into their lives. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 27, 2025, at Reed Funeral Home 801 Pittsburgh Avenue NW. N. Canton, OH.
