Catherine Lavallee Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Aug. 23, 2016.
Catherine Lillian Lavallee (nee Kelly) October 27, 1935 - August 18, 2016 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother and wife Lillian, who passed away in the early morning hours of August 18th at Vancouver General Hospital. Lillian fought a long and brave battle with Multiple Myeloma, showing true courage and dignity throughout her journey. Lillian is predeceased by her eldest son Fred Wood and sister Doreen Himbeault. She leaves behind her loving husband Fernand, her children Warren Fisher and Carol Castagna (Aldo) as well as her brother John Kelly (Patricia), her sister Margaret and her many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Most will remember Lillian's passion for life, globetrotting the world with her family and friends, she loved sports, was an avid skier (she had the broken bones to prove it), golf and tennis. Hockey however, was by far her favourite, cheering her Penguins on to their most recent championship this past year. Mom loved her garden and took great pride in providing legendary feasts for her family, all while maintaining a sharp wit, class and healthy sense of humour. She was a true inspiration to us all showing us that hard work does indeed pay off, as evident by working up to her 79th year. We would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Erica Peterson and her entire team at VGH. Their dedication and commitment to her care will never be forgotten. Mom's request was that we hold no service in her memory, but rather celebrate her life each in our own way. She will be laid to rest next to her son at Sunnyside Lawn Cemetery in South Surrey. In lieu of flowers, please instead provide a donation to the Myeloma Society of Canada at: www.Myelomacanada.ca or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Gramma Lil,

I am so glad I was able to see you last week and say my goodbyes to you. I will always be so grateful to you for letting my dad, my brother, and myself into your family and treating us like one of your own. I will miss your positive attitude and smiling face. Thanksgiving and Christmas just won't be the same without you but we will always remember and cherish the memories we did make with you. You fought a hard fight and refused to stop, which is something you did with every situation and is something I always looked up to. May you rest in peace. I love you xoxo.

Mom,i will always take a sense of comfort that you are now with Fred and our ancestors.
Your letter to me and Duke really touched my heart and explained a lot to me. I
always had a belief that we will all meet again.
Our trip to St.Maartin was one of my favorites, plus our skiing at Manning Park. I will miss your stuffing at Christmas.and I will try to remember to get my hair cut regularly as you reminded me often.i will always remember that you told me I should be grateful for my job in times when it seems to be such a drag for me at times. (As Ive often said.)
I've realized over the years is that in life 'it's not really what we say but what we do that matters'.
Until we meet again,
Love Warren

Mom, today we lay you to rest. You have taught me so much and I have always admired you and will do my best to make you proud. Thank you for being such a strong, independent caring and loving person. You always had time for others and were compassionate towards others who had less. Your vigor for life and all it has to offer was admirable. I will keep you in my heart forever and I miss you every second of each day. I will always remember you telling me when I was debating decisions, "Go for it Carol!!" with the thumbs up gesture. And me to you was a big "high five" to you as you made strong strides forward in your journey. I hope I can make you as proud of me as I was of you. I will never be the same. May you rest in eternal peace. The Duchess.

May fond memories of your mom bring you comfort during this hard time in your life. Look back on all the good memories you were able to have and smile at the fact that you were able to share these before your mom passed away. Our hearts and prayers go out to you Carol, Warren & Aldo and your family. Love Helen & Greg

My Auntie, you are one of the strongest women I have met, Along with my mom of course, LOL, with a sense of unexpected humor! I spent a lot of time growing up in your home with my cousins, Carol and Warren! We had lots of good times on that street and in the park! My last memory of you will be our lunch at The Cactus Club with my wonderful Cousin Carol. you were having a good day and we went with the flow and it worked out Great!!!!
Jimmy and I were coming to see you Friday to say goodbye because I felt like I wouldn't see you again, And we never did, you left before we could say goodbye!
you always had faith in me my mom said and encouraged me through some tough times! Well there will be more tough times, but there will be more good times! Please be there for both, you and mom, Fred, Dad, Grandpa, Grandma, whoever isn't busy!
