CECIL SCHNURR

Cecil Peter Schnurr It is with great sadness that we say good-bye to Cecil Peter Schnurr, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 22 with family by his side. He is pre-deceased by his parents, his sister, Emma Niedermeyer and brothers, Joe and Frank. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his children, Larry (Sydney), Marianne, Robert, Joe (Leslie), Bill (Kaoru) and Joanne (Michel); his sisters, Mary Ehman and Ann Matties; 13 grandchildren, Peter, Jeff, Jeremy and Adam Schnurr, David and Jaymie Hansen, Sairah Walsh, Karina Schnurr, Becky and Craig Schnurr-Howsam, Eric Nakahara-Schnurr, and Annika and Alexa Carroll; as well as 3 great-grandchildren, Molly and John Hansen and Abigail Schnurr. Cec was born in Regina on February 4, 1917, to Anton and Theresa Schnurr. He attended St. Joseph's elementary school and later Central Collegiate. He was an excellent student and really enjoyed learning. He was particularly gifted in subjects such as algebra and calculus. After serving as an airplane mechanic stationed in Summerside, P.E.I. during the war, Cec attended the University of Saskatchewan where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. He later received his designation as a chartered accountant in 1944. Initially, he worked in Winnipeg for the Department of Defense, but later moved his family to Regina so that he could eventually open his own accounting firm. Cec loved his work and was very good at it. He worked well into his 90's and his desk at home still shows evidence of work in progress. Cec met his future wife, Mary Flegel, in Saskatoon. They were married in 1948 and would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on August 28 of this year. Mary was not only his wife and the mother of his children, but also his bridge, golf and bowling partner. She also assisted him with work-related duties and has many memories of working late into the night in places such as Radville, Southey and Qu'Appelle. Cec will be remembered for his intelligence, hard work, integrity and commitment to family. He really looked forward to the road trips he took with Mary to visit his children and grandchildren in other provinces, as well as family dinners. Not a dinner would go by without him toasting to the gratitude of having family. He also had a great sense of humour that only a few of us lucky ones would get to see from time to time. A Funeral Mass Celebrating Cec's Life will take place at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Holy Cross R.C. Church, 315 Douglas Ave. E. Regina, SK, with Fr. Norman Marcotte as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. As per the family's request, flowers are gratefully declined. Paragon Funeral Services entrusted with arrangements. 359-7776
