Charles Arthur Canby, 51

LEWES - Charles Arthur Canby of Lewes passed away suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, near Slaughter Beach. He was 51.

He was born in Memphis, Tenn., on Dec. 9, 1955, son of Thomas Dawson Sr. and Margaret Katherine (Overby) Canby of West Chester, Pa.

Mr. Canby attended the McDonough School, Northeastern University and Memphis State University.

He was employed in the field of information technology at the University of Pennsylvania, and Price Waterhouse Coopers, Philadelphia.

Since moving to Delaware in 2000, he worked for the state of Delaware, Department for Safety and Homeland Security, as an information system support specialist.

Mr. Canby loved traveling, photography, non-fiction on the best sellers list, beagles and his parrot, Elmo.

He was a member of St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, where he started his journey in the faith through participation in the RCIA program.

Mr. Canby served as an adviser for four years on the Web site committee, participated as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, served as an extraordinary minister to the sick and chaired the Respect for Life Ministry.

He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Monsignor Desmond Council 13348 and in the Teams of Our Lady Society.

Mr. Canby will be sadly missed by his parents and his wife of 15 years, Patricia Link Canby.

He is survived by his brother, Thomas Dawson Canby Jr. of Austin, Texas, and his wife Kate and their children, Julia, Rebecca and Elizabeth; his sister, Mary Jean Goetz of Towson, Md., and her husband Robert and their children, Sarah and Matthew; and his cousins, Nancy Lee Canby of Brookfield and William Dawson Canby of Boyds, Md., and his wife Lee and their son, Tommy.

He will also be missed by the members of the Link family, including the Cannons, the Esterlys, the Fullmers, and Salvatores, all of whom he loved for 15 years, especially the children.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Connelly at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Jude the Apostle Church, Del. 1, north of Five Points, where friends may call one hour prior.

Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro.

Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude The Apostle Building Fund, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE 19958.
