Charles Kimble Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2015.
Services for Charles Tyton Kimble, 97, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2015 in the Gipson Funeral Home chapel, with Pastor Steve Cowart of Trinity Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Kimble was born May 11, 1918 in Decatur, Texas, the son of the late Martha Jane (Roberts) and Charles Oliver Kimble. He passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in a local hospice facility.
After the death of his first wife, Charles met his second true love, Mrs. Nolie Wilcox, and they were married on November 20, 2001. He then had 2 stepsons, Scott Wilcox and his wife Merlene and William Wilcox II. He had three step-grandchildren by Scott and Merlene, Anastasia, Nikki, and Chloe Renee Wilcox.
Mr. Kimble went into the C.C.C. Corps at the early age of 17 years. When he was old enough to serve his country, he joined the United States Army during World War II. He entered the Army on June 13, 1944 and was honorably discharged on January 15, 1946 at Camp Fannin, Texas. He took his basic training at Mineral Wells, Texas. He served his country proudly and was called in to inaugurate Governor Allred in 1936. He was the number one gunner in the 103rd Infantry Regiment in the Southwest Pacific Theatre of Operations. He spent a lot of his time in ground battle by hand to hand combat. He went to Manila and stayed several months and then went to Layte Island in the Philippines around Luzon. He stayed in the Army until Pearl Harbor was bombed.
He then came to Lufkin, Texas and went to work for Southland Paper Mill for 41 years and 8 months, retiring from the Mill in the 1980s. He was a tour foreman and was later promoted to be supervisor over all the paper machines. He trained Mr. Melvin Kurth, who was well known in Lufkin and also worked at the Mill at that time.
Charles' hobby was bass fishing. Charles and Nolie had a wonderful, devoted life and were very happy all of their years of marriage. They were married at Trinity Baptist Church by Dr. Walter Futch, who was the pastor of the church at that time. He credited his longevity to living a good, clean, Christian life. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed, especially by his wife, many friends, and loved ones.
Survivors include his wife, Nolie Kimble of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Regan and Kathy Kimble, Eddie and Nita Kimble, and Kimmie and Sandi Kimble; daughter, Mary Lynette Kimble Wolden; grandchildren, Marcie Gore, Glynn Kimble, Kevin Murphy, Kelly Murphy, Cassie Kimble, Amanda Kimbel, Chris Born, Heather Born, Mary Kimble, and Kimberly Kimble; and a number of other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kimble was preceded in death by his first love, Edna Faye Henry; stepson, William Preston Wilcox; son-in-law, Duane Wolden; and a number of sisters and brothers.
Pallbearers of Charles' choice will be his grandsons, Chris Born, Kevin Murphy, Kelly Murphy and Glynn Kimble; his 2 stepsons, Scott Wilcox and William Wilcox II; and friends, Ricky Turner and Ronny McMullen.

Charlie Kimble was like a big brother to me when I was a young engineer at the paper mill. He taught me a lot about paper making. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family in this time of sorrow.
