Charles T. "Ted" McCafferty, 84, of Kittanning, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at the Armstrong County Health Center in Kittanning. He was born March 17, 1921, in Oak Ridge, to Charles D. and Minnie (Hartman) McCafferty. Mr. McCafferty was a partner with his father in McCafferty & Son's Rocket Market grocery store on Chestnut Street in Kittanning. He was a milkman for Better Dairy. He worked at the Kittanning Post Office as a window clerk, retiring in 1988. An Army veteran, he served in the Asiatic Pacific with the 381st Motor Auto Maintenance Company during World War II. He was a 1939 graduate of Kittanning High School. He was a life member of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Kittanning. He was actively involved in the Armstrong County Federal Employees Federal Credit Union as a member of the board of directors. He was a life member of the Kittanning Elks Lodge 203. He loved to play golf and was a fan of the Steelers and the Pirates. For his entire life, he was a resident of Kittanning. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Margaret "Betty" (Buzard) McCafferty; one son, Richard McCafferty and wife, Peggy, of Kittanning; one daughter, Patty Forringer and husband, Tom, of Kittanning; and two grandchildren, Brad Forringer and wife, Angela, of California, and Brooke Forringer, of Maryland. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jane Sanders and Irma Gray. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Bauer Funeral Home, 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning, where an Elks service will be held at 7:15 p.m. and a parish wake service will be at 7:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Kittanning, with his pastor, the Rev. Emil Payer, officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, East Franklin Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
