Mr Charles Phillip Spencer

Spencer Charles Phillip, age 59, of Chelsea, AL passed away on Thursday, July 08, 2010, in Birmingham, AL. He was an Asphalt Design Technician for Vulcan Materials, formerly a Jackson Police Officer who brought the first Dare program for drugs to the state of Tennessee. Phillip had numerous achievements like, Police officer of the year, most outstanding police of the year, and many other awards. He had twenty-five plus years on the force before retiring as a Lieutenant. He was a veteran serving in the Navy during Vietnam. Phillip was a member of the West Jackson Baptist Church in Jackson, TN. He loved being in numerous organizations, like Past President of the Shriners Club, Past Worshipful Master-St. John’s Masonic Lodge # 332, Past Vice-President of Jackson Jaycees, member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Phillip’s school achievements were graduating from Southside High School, and attended Jackson State Community College. He was married for thirty-three years, loving father and husband. Always there when it counted the most. “May he finally find the peace he searched for.� He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter William Spencer and Ruth Eugenia; grandfather, David Crockett Spencer. Survivors include wife, Connie Lynn Edwards Spencer of Chelsea, AL; daughter, Cortney Celeste Spencer Mixon (Justin) of Jemison, AL; son, Charles Cameron Spencer of Chelsea, AL; sister, Docie Inez Tucker of Texas; grandparents, Parmelia Narcissus Spencer and Charles Frank and Emma Lou Dove; one grandchild, Damian Christian Mixon; aunt, Patsy Pearce and cousin, Patricia Jordan and many more. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 12, 2010, at Rockco Chapel Montevallo from 6 to 8PM for friends. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2010; at 10AM at Rockco Chapel Montevallo will burial to follow in the Alabama National Cemetery, with military honors.
