Charles Ray Stubblefield

Graveside Services for Charles Ray Stubblefield, 84, of Lake Charles, Louisiana (formerly of Tyler), will be held on Thursday, May 9th, at 10 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery with J.C. Tate and Jon Tate officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Stubblefield passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was born September 20, 1928, in Lufkin, Texas, to Horace G. and Vivian Cannon Stubblefield. Charles (Stubby) graduated from Lufkin High School, attended the University of Texas at Austin, and began his career with Shell Oil Company prior to marrying the love of his life, Helen Caserta. After serving in the USAF in the Korean War, Charles and Helen returned to Tyler, where they lived and raised their family for the next 52 years. Charles spent his career working in the oil and gas industry as an independent petroleum landman and broker. In 2010, Charles was presented with the Pioneer Award by the East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen for his contribution to the oil and gas industry in East Texas. Charles loved spending time with his family and friends, traveling, and watching sports including the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. Charles was a charter member of Hollytree Country Club and the Sharon Shrine Temple. Other organizations he was a member of included Tyler Petroleum Club, East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen and American Association of Professional Landman, and he was a life member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He was also a member of First Christian Church of Tyler and attended the Episcopal Church of the Good Sheppard in Lake Charles. Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Helen Jane Caserta Stubblefield, mother and father, Horace G. and Vivian Stubblefield and brother and sister-in-law, Horace G., Jr, and Beth Stubblefield. He is survived by his loving family including son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Karen Stubblefield of Lake Charles, LA; daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Marc Tate of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Matt Tate and his wife Diana of Katy, Ashley Gautier and her husband Steve of New York, NY, Carson Tate of Pittsburgh, PA, and Ryon Stubblefield of Lake Charles, LA; great grandchildren, Hunter and Ben Tate; and a niece and nephew, Suzanne Stubblefield of Houston, and H. Gandy Stubblefield, III, of Lufkin. The family would like to acknowledge with appreciation the care provided by the staffs of Emeritus Assisted Living community and Christus Hospice of Lake Charles. Pallbearers will be Matt Tate, Carson Tate, Ryon Stubblefield, Jay Turner, Ed Braswell, Paul (Flip) McKibben and H. Gandy Stubblefield, III. Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8th at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
