OBERLIN — Charlotte Woebcke Bosch died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at her home in Oberlin, Ohio, after a short but intense fight with metastatic kidney cancer.
Charlotte was born in San Francisco, Calif., on Feb. 26, 1933. After earning a bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley, she became an elementary school teacher in Oakland, Calif. After marrying Robert K. Bosch in 1962, she moved to Buffalo, N.Y., where she had two boys, Bob and Derek.
Upon the unexpected death of her husband in 1969, Charlotte raised her two young sons single-handedly while also resuming her teaching career at Clarence Central Schools in Clarence, N.Y., within just weeks of his death. She was a strong and loving woman who was unfailingly dedicated to her two sons and her students.
Charlotte continued to teach in Clarence from 1969 through 1995. In her retirement, she volunteered at the Clarence Public Library and then, after moving to Oberlin in 2003, at both Mercy Allen Hospital and the Oberlin Heritage Center, where she gave drop-in tours and lessons in the past. In 2011 she was named OHC's volunteer of the year. Everyone who knew Charlotte was impressed by her grace and poise, her quiet strength, and her warm smile.
Charlotte is survived and greatly missed by her son Robert A. Bosch, his wife, Katherine Bosch, and their son Dima Bosch of Oberlin, and her son Derek J. Bosch, his wife Michelle Bosch, and their daughter Anne Bosch of Belmont, Calif.
