Christina Dorward Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 13 to Mar. 14, 2006.
DORWARD, Christina Evelyn (nee Cameron) Dorward, Christina Evelyn (nee Cameron) passed away on March 10, 2006 at the age of 85. Our mother of six, grandmother to fourteen and great-grandmother to five will be missed by all. We take strength from Mom for her knowledge of the life hereafter and her joining with her loved ones on the other side. Mom's husband Frederick Ralph predeceased her in 2000, and a daughter Janet Anne in 1974. A brief Memorial Service will he held, Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Appel Funeral Home/Central Memorial Chapel, 10530-116 Street, Edmonton. A family gathering will intern her remains at the Cameron plot in Busby in the spring. As Mom worked for many years at the Cross Cancer Institute, donations in lieu of flowers would gratefully be accepted by them. Throughout her life Mom was in service to others. As a respected Registered Nurse, she gave to others above self. She wrote the history of the Royal Alexandra School of Nursing "Below the Flight Path". Her poetry, bringing to words real life people and stories, blessed the lives of many who were the recipients. Mom lived in Whitehorse for many years and has numerous friends there and fond memories of the North. The service will be conducted by Reverend Joshua Phillpotts. Although the last time I saw "Aunt Chris" was in Quartzite with Fred, it was a memorable visit. It was easy to see why she was my mother's favorite aunt.

To the Dorward children and Families,

Marshall & Isabelle Mills, previously of Pink Mt., B.C., wish to send belated condolences and regret that they missed Chris' Memorial Service.

Chris and Fred made considerable effort to maintain family ties with sister Isabelle, and the two remained close via phone and written correspondence up to Chris' parting. Games together of Scrabble and Up-words will be sorely missed.

Isabelle remains the surviving child of Evan and Jean Cameron. She continues to cherish her life-friend and sister "Chrissie."

Many of us here have lasting footprints on our hearts in just Chris' shoe size. We feel that this world is a lesser place for her leaving it. Now who to fill her shoes?

With love,

Marshall and Isabelle Mills,

Fort St. John, B.C.

I was privileged to meet Cammie when I accompanied my mother (Flossie) to their nursing class' 60th anniversary reunion. Then we stayed with her during last year's 62nd anniversary. After hearing about Cammie and Fred all my life, especially when they hosted two Yukon reunions, it was a joy to see what a special place she had in the hearts of the Class of 1943. Her hospitality was superb. The next time I visit my mother, I will take her flowers in memory of Cammie (yellow Royal Alex roses?). May God bless Linda and all the family.

Chris Dorward was always "special" to our family,(Alfred and Chris Cameron of Lethbridge AB) and even though I was very young when she visited us, I will always remember the laughter and happiness which surrounded her and became contagious to all.

She will be greatly missed by all of our family.

I'm sorry that I can't make it to the memorial service for Auntie Chris. She'll be sadly missed by Madeleine and myself. Thankfully we had a chance to visit with her when we were back last summer and the summer before. She was always there to talk to taking a positive interest in us and our families. We'll miss her greatly. Our condolences to my Dorward cousins.

Our love and sympathy to Chris' family and friends. We can attest to Chris' love and support of Fred and the family, having known them for over forty years, twenty-five years as Fred's business partner. Sharon and I very much enjoyed her visit to Victoria.

I was very sorry to hear of the passing of my second cousin, Christina. I have fond memories of my visit with her and Fred many years ago. They were very kind to a young Easterner out West for the first time.

Diane's and my thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of loss.

Although I haven't seen Chris in a few years, I remember her well from The Churchill Retirement Community. I found her to be such a wonderful, cheerful woman with a wealth of knowledge. My greatest sympathies go out to her family and friends.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Chris. I had the opportunity to work with Chris in the Cross Cancer Institute 30 years ago for 10 years. Recently she was on a senior's bus tour to Andrew and enquired of me. I was so lucky to have been notified of this and I enjoyed visiting her when she was having dinner on the tour. She was an inspiration to all that she meet. May God be with you at this difficult time.

Our deepest sympathy to all of Aunty Chris' family. I am so glad to have visited with her before we went south this winter and so glad to have known her as family. She kept so close to the Cameron family all her life and if I could do half the things she has done in her lifetime and been the caring person that she was, I will have fulfilled a great life.

We cannot attend her funeral but you will all be in our thoughts and prayers.
