Christopher Sullivan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 2, 2025.
A beloved husband, Dad, friend, and son of Florida's Space Coast shores, Christopher Michael "Sully" Sullivan, passed away on May 22, 2025.

Born unexpectedly in an elevator on October 16, 1968, Sully (also known as "Chris") could not wait to boldly join this world and cradle all he loved with laughter, gentle spontaneity, and a captivatingly warm smile. He first met his future wife, Sarah, in a summer tennis league when she was twelve years old and he was thirteen. Later, they would meet again in Mr. Greene's high school biology class, become best friends, and fall in love. On a Kentucky Derby Saturday, these true companions went to their senior prom, with Chris donning a tuxedo with tails and driving a brown Datsun amped with a boom box on the back seat floor. Mixed tapes and love notes flowed as their families lived in different cities after graduation and throughout college. Chris and Sarah attended Florida State University, and married soon after graduating, with Sarah's Dad, Reverend Ken Crossman, officiating the ceremony.

Chris paid for college by working for a moving company and his enjoyment in rearranging household furniture and maneuvering seemingly impossible objects became part of his hope-filled delight in shifting spaces and creating small joys ignited by "Wouldn't it be so cool if…?"

A man who enjoyed dancing in the kitchen to late 80s and early 90s anthems, sharing Thai food dates with his bride, and watching Marvel, Star Wars, and Mission Impossible movies with his family on regular Friday pizza picnic nights, Sully could be counted on for set dance moves, motivation, quick wit, and calmly assuring everything would be okay. Even 30 years into their marriage, Chris still loved holding his wife's hand, sharing deep belly laughs, and keeping a handkerchief ready in his pocket. They loved any body of water they could find together and lived a life of leaping in and holding on, even when the ground shook and illness's deep aches emerged.

In 1995, Sully worked for Tech Data, while Sarah was at Stetson Law School, and during their second year living in St. Petersburg, Florida, he accepted a job with Microsoft and stayed with the corporation for 27 years. Sully was an integral part of the company during global innovations, and revered his co-workers and the Microsoft journey, even being excited when the last four digits of their home phone number were "9598" because those were, at the time, the most recent versions of Microsoft's software. Initially accepting a position with the company in Atlanta, Sully quickly took on global roles, earning multiple awards, including Microsoft Circle of Excellence, Corporate Hi-Potential Leadership, Partner Impact, and eventually leading Microsoft's U.S. Health and Life Sciences team.

Active in church and service, Sully held a strong faith, shared in daily scripture with his family, and actively studied God's word. He often repeated Ephesians 6:10, Galatians 6:2, Jeremiah 29:11, Hebrews 11:1, Isaiah 42:6-7; Ruth 1:16-17; John 14:27, and Song of Solomon 3:4. His faith and abiding love anchored him during the depth of illness and steadfast determination to heal.

Sully is preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Audrey Sullivan, and his father-in-law, and is survived by his wife of 33 years (40+ years together), Sarah Crossman Sullivan, and their four children, John Christopher "Jack" Sullivan, Henry Riley Sullivan, Cecily Catherine Sullivan, and Gabrielle Joy Sullivan, multiple aunts, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, mother-in-law, and cherished friends. Chris loved his family "beyond the moon and every star." He deeply valued working from home, doing his job remotely for the majority of his career, because he wanted to be with his family more than any other place. He delighted in ensuring the car was warm before his family entered, loved music cranked loud with the windows down – especially on the way to school, and making coffee early in the morning for Sarah.

A true gentleman who reveled in cheering on his family, Sully was quick to make friends and could be steadfastly counted on for Starlight mints, welcoming casual attire – no matter the occasion, and any discussions on golf, beaches, cars, dogs, fly fishing, football, travel, technology, and everything Microsoft, but above all, he treasured Team Sully – his Sully Six. This great storyteller, optimist, and nurturer of dreams loved outdoor dinner parties, impromptu milkshake dates, Pictionary, UNO, and charades, and, with just about any music playing, would drum on anything, including steering wheels, chair arms, and church pews. His cadence -- the steadfast rhythm of his heart -- was Sarah, Jack, Henry, Cecily, and Gabrielle.

While there is no singular afternoon to fully encapsulate love and his far too short time here, there will be a celebration of Christopher Michael Sullivan's life and his forever home in heaven on Saturday, June 14 at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, Atlanta, Georgia. On earth as it is in heaven, is the family's prayer, indeed.

In lieu of flowers, friends have established scholarship opportunities in honor of Sully's children in high school and college. www.UGift529.com Code: A6K-N2N

I was so sad to hear this about Sully. He and I became very close over the past couple of years even after almost 10 years of not speaking much since our Microsoft days just given life, other jobs etc.

He had the warmest heart, and infectious smile, and honestly loved his family more than anything.

He also kept his friends and network in such high regard.

I will miss him.

Go with god brother.

My heart breaks for you, Sarah, and your family. Chris was one of the kindest gentlemen I have ever had the fortune to know. Every memory of Chris is of his smiling face and gentle humor. Remembering his love of his family and his joy in welcoming guests to his home - especially showing off his enormous BBQ - brings a smile to my face. It has been many years since we shared a glass of wine but my memories of those years in Atlanta have not dimmed and I cherish those times. I will keep all of you in my prayers and know that your unwavering faith will sustain you. With deepest sympathy, Andrea Bailey Powers

Chris and Sarah were the power couple in high school and it appears so in life, as well. Chris was admired, beloved and respected...even then, he impressed everyone with his maturity and ability to lead. I have followed his success through Sarah´s FB posts. No surprise to me or anyone who knew "Mr Commodore" and his amazing soulmate, Sarah. I have lost both parents over the years and some dear friends. If I can humbly offer anything at all to ease this tragic loss, it would be to consider these thoughts. The only way to the other side is through. Allow yourself to feel every emotion as it approaches. Spend as much time in the healing presence of God as you can. Know that because of your time with this person, you are forever changed, imparted with love and wisdom. Rejoice in the glory of heaven and remember you will meet him there and until then, you will have a guardian. You will feel him in the wind and sense him in sacred moments. His spirit lives on.

I will forever remember Chris's remarkable smile and the enjoyable discussions we frequently shared regarding work, life, and faith. He was a cherished husband and father, and he will always hold a special place in my heart and thoughts as a dear friend. Chris, what a rock and true gentleman. My heart and prayers go out to all of you during this most unexpected and difficult time. Just know the Duncans treasure our time and memories living across the street from you and figuring out how to raise small children. I am here for all of you, Sarah, Jack, Henry, Cecily, and Gabriella any time you need me. Much love, Hadley

I remember having a lot of fun with the Sullivans growing up. I loved swinging on their swing in the front of the house, jumping on the trampoline with my cousins, as well as going to The Varsity to eat hot dogs. In all those fun activities, I always remember Uncle Chris smiling. Uncle Chris always had a warm presence and made me feel welcome.

I'm grateful to have wonderful memories of Uncle Chris. I pray for comfort and strength over the Sullivan family. Please let me know how I can be a blessing to you.

Chris had a zest for life that was unmistakable. I worked with Chris for many years at Microsoft. We first met at a Microsoft Industry event in Florida. His enthusiasm for Microsoft was infectious and his dedication to his teammates was indelible. That spirit will live on forever. He was truly one-of-a-kind.

May Sully rest in peace and God bless Sarah and the children.

A friend called me today and reminded me that Chris was "Mr. Commodore" of our high school. They gave that recognition to him due his complete representation of all that was good at our school. That was Chris. He was an exceptional man and I´m so glad he was married to my sister. So many people continue to be inspired by him. He will be dearly missed.

When Sarah and Chris fell in love in high school I was never concerned that their love for each other might harm either of their futures. In fact, their relationship enhanced their teenaged success.

The were both high achievers and they were also each other´s best cheerleaders.

And this continued throughout their lives together. Years ago, when
Sarah was working on an important agenda to change a broken system and someone said it absolutely could not be done. Chris replied "Have you met my wife?"

I remember Chris being "on the field" at every sporting event in which the kids were involved.

I remember Chris welcoming every person who entered their home.

I especially remember every Christmas when either Jack, Henry, Cecily or Gabrielle (or all four of them) participated in the Christmas Eve church service. And afterward, driving all of us all over the place to see the Christmas lights, and knowing that he and Sarah would be up most of the night preparing a wonderful Christmas morning for all of us.

Sarah´s dad and I always thought of Chris as our fifth child.

Sully was a great friend, brother and dedicated family man and absolutely cherished Sarah and his kids. We had great times together at Microsoft and always making each other laugh. God Bless the Sullivan family. Here´s us together at one of many healthcare conferences over the years - with his signature big smile. Rest in Heaven, Sully.
