Clara Rogers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 7 to May 14, 2023.
Clara Jean Rogers Pensacola - Clara Jean Ray Rogers, 85, surrounded by family and friends, went to be with her Heavenly Father, on Monday, April 24, 2023. She was born on August 1, 1937 in Stuart, MS to her parents, Homer and Nellie Ray.

Jean attended school in Leland, MS and played basketball and tennis at Leland High School where she made All-District in basketball. She attended Delta State University where she met the love of her life and future husband, Thomas "Jet" Rogers. During her 44-year work career, she was employed in Civil Service, at the University of Alabama, Escambia County School District and with her husband in the football equipment industry.

Jean and her family joined First Baptist Church of Pensacola in 1973. She loved her church home, where she was a member of the Sanctuary Choir, Singing Seniors and was also involved in Acteens, Awana, Samaritan Hands, Vacation Bible School and preparing the Lord's Supper. Jean and Jett adored their Sunday School Class and Jean also loved her Beth Moore Bible Studies. She was an avid tennis player and was a member of Roger Scott Tennis Center and Pensacola Racquet Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and games with family and friends. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading, working jigsaw puzzles and watching the University of Alabama football.

Jean had a dynamic personality and always had a smile on her face. Her joy came from doing for others and she used every opportunity to share God's Word. Once asked how she would like to be remembered, Jean replied "for my cheerfulness, being a good listener and being a positive person."

Jean is survived by her brother Reece Ray (Angie) and sister, Anne Huskey (Greer). Her three children, Tommy Rogers, Jr., Mincie Chappelle and Jeanie Corcoran (Shawn). Nine grandchildren: Donnie and Kristen Chappelle; Koda (Ashley), Hunter, Trevor and Tanner Rogers; Stephanie, Stuart and Jaclyn Jean (deceased) Lockhart and Sloan Corcoran. Four great-grandchildren: Nolan, Lakelyn, Alleyia and Cooper "Jet". Six nieces and nephews: Terry, Lisa, Lynn, Leslie, Robin and Tracy. Special family: Shelby Johnson, Erin Rogers and Christina Axtell.

A memorial service will be held at Pleitz Chapel at First Baptist Church, Pensacola, FL on June 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church ministries: Samaritan Hands, Church Library and Martha's Vineyard.
