CLARENCE WORRELL PREVOST

PREVOST, CLARENCE WORRELL, of Coral Gables and Wellsboro, PA, died at home in Coral Gables on December 23. He was 72. Clancy Prevost was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy and the University of Pennsylvania. He joined the Navy after college and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant. During his Navy years he flew with the "Hurricane Hunters" squadron. Following his discharge, he joined Northwest Airlines as a pilot, retiring in 1993 after 25 years of flying. He began a second career as an instructor in the flight simulator, both in Minneapolis, Minnesota and in Miami. He was the instructor who was suspicious of his student who had registered to learn to fly the 747-400 and who had not even soloed in a single-engine airplane. Despite resistance from the flight academy administration, Prevost persisted in his questions about his student. These events occurred in August 2001, five weeks before 9/11. Eventually the student Zacharias Moussaoui, was arrested. After a trial in Federal Court in Alexandria, Virginia, Moussoui was sentenced to life imprisonment in federal prison in Colorado. The Airline Pilots Association International and the U.S. Department of State both recognized Prevost for his heroism. He is survived by his wife, Sheilah Young Prevost, a sister, Sarah Shoemaker, two brothers, Louis and James and three children, John A. Prevost, David V. Prevost and Andrea L. Koven and seven grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his father Dr. John V. Prevost, his mother Julianne Cawley Prevost and his brother John A. Prevost. View this Guest Book at www.
