CLARENCE PREVOST Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 2, 2011.
PREVOST, CLARENCE WORRELL, of Coral Gables and Wellsboro, PA, died at home in Coral Gables on December 23. He was 72. Clancy Prevost was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy and the University of Pennsylvania. He joined the Navy after college and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant. During his Navy years he flew with the "Hurricane Hunters" squadron. Following his discharge, he joined Northwest Airlines as a pilot, retiring in 1993 after 25 years of flying. He began a second career as an instructor in the flight simulator, both in Minneapolis, Minnesota and in Miami. He was the instructor who was suspicious of his student who had registered to learn to fly the 747-400 and who had not even soloed in a single-engine airplane. Despite resistance from the flight academy administration, Prevost persisted in his questions about his student. These events occurred in August 2001, five weeks before 9/11. Eventually the student Zacharias Moussaoui, was arrested. After a trial in Federal Court in Alexandria, Virginia, Moussoui was sentenced to life imprisonment in federal prison in Colorado. The Airline Pilots Association International and the U.S. Department of State both recognized Prevost for his heroism. He is survived by his wife, Sheilah Young Prevost, a sister, Sarah Shoemaker, two brothers, Louis and James and three children, John A. Prevost, David V. Prevost and Andrea L. Koven and seven grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his father Dr. John V. Prevost, his mother Julianne Cawley Prevost and his brother John A. Prevost. View this Guest Book at www. Still think of Clancy often and think about the things we would be doing if he was here. Always had a good time spending time with Clance and I wish he had time to visit us in The Villages. See you later at the great tea pot in the sky!

Clancy flew co-pilot for me on the B-727. Fun guy to be with when the crew got together for dinner. Someone a grandmother would definitely be proud of. Paul Ringer.

Dear Sheilah and family. So sorry to hear of your loss. My connection with Clancy goes back to 1965 and our days with VW-4 - the Navy Hurricane Hunters. He was about 6 months behind me there and with Northwest. A unique sidebar is that my son Andrew and your Andrea were both born the same day - Oct. 2nd. at Fairview Southdale in Mn. He was ever cheery - inquisitive and willing to visit. The capstone of his career while instructing, was being recognized by ALPA for his breaking the plot about the 9/11 flight training. Go in peace Clancy...

Always enjoyed working with Clancy. Great guy. He will be missed.

Clancy was the tallest player on our NWA basketball team and, therefore played center. He worked hard, loved the game, and we became good friends throughout our flying careers. We also played handball at the Decathlon and enjoyed many good times before and after the games. His quick wit and super intelligence made him a very interesting guy as well as a good friend. We'll miss you Clancy and will cherish many great memories. Fred & Carol Breitling

Clancy was the senior guy in our NWA class of Aug '68, one number senior to me. I didn't really get to know him until several years later and I thought,"He is the best kept secret in our class!" He was intellectual, incredibly humorous, quick witted, and a joy to spend time with. We remained close friends from that time.

I wish I'd known about his illness so I could have at least supported him through cards and phone calls. Upon hearing of Clancy's death, I had a wonderful conversation with his widow, Sheilah, whom I'd never met but was warmly impressed with.

Clancy was my friend and I'll miss him dearly. My memories are of laughter and delightful conversation. My thoughts and prayers are with Sheilah and I hope we someday meet in person.

Godspeed, Clancy...you leave many behind who thought the world of you.

I worked with Clancy many a day and often late at night after he retired. He showed me the ropes at PanAm International Flight Academy. Taught me to run the new strange simulators all over the country and was always there to back me up. He was such a great guy and could work with the most difficult student with ease.
