Cody Mooney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 5, 2019.
Cody was born in 1987, in California, to his loving parents, Kevin and Robin Mooney.

He died this past week due to complications from brain cancer surgery.  He was 31 years old, and slipped away from us at the very beginning of his birthday month.  (He figured, if birthdays are good, a whole month would be great!)

Cody leaves behind his wife and childhood sweetheart, Emily Mooney.  They met when they were 13 years old and almost instantly began their love interest. (One of two events that initially got under the skin of Emily's Dad.  The second was his passing this last week.)  He also leaves behind four beautiful young children; Willow, Barrett, Weston, and Georgia; with a new baby girl due next week.  He taught them how to fish, to love God, explore the outdoors, how to shoot a bow, and to blow bubbles (though not necessarily at the same time); and always how to be grateful and to love others.

Cody also leaves behind two brothers, Chris and Cameron; and two sisters, Randi and Riley; all four of his grandparents, countless aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He loved the outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, or exploring nature with his family.  If he found out that you had never been hunting, he would begin planning a trip just to get you out there.

Cody had a childhood dream of being a firefighter and has been a fireman/paramedic/first responder for 15 years.

He was "all in" with whatever he decided to do, at least until the next thing came along; from Spikeball, to lattes, flavored toothpicks, and shoes and boots (which he never actually gave up).

He loved Mexican food (even Taco Bell); Sour Patch Kids, and banana pudding with 'Nilla Wafers.  He smoked his own wild game and would invite others over.  He loved the way food would draw people together.

His purpose in life was to glorify God, impact peoples lives, while having fun... and he loved to have fun!

Cody wasn't perfect (remember the banana pudding)... but close.

If you thought Cody Mooney was a firefighter, you would be wrong.

If you thought Cody Mooney was an outdoorsman, you would be wrong.

Cody was first, and most deeply, a follower of Jesus Christ; he was a passionate lover of Emily, his childhood sweetheart; an intentional, invested, father; and a fiercely faithful friend.  Yet he would say of himself, "I am so selfish!"  All the while, he was a man who continued giving and thinking of others to the very end.

One of the most common phrases in the Mooney home was,

"Love you. Miss you. Kiss you."

Cody has left a lasting mark on this world in his few short years and he will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Cody, we love you, miss you, and so wish we could kiss you.

The family would like to thank the South Metro Fire Department for their incredible support during this difficult time, the ICU staff at the Littleton Adventist Hospital for their care and support while fighting for Cody's life, and so many friends and family members who have loved on the Mooney family in countless ways.

As an expression of sympathy for the Mooney family, please consider:

-- Becoming an organ donor.

-- Instead of sending memorial donations to an organization, Cody would want you to move towards someone near you and personally help them in their time of need.

-- Contributing to the Cody Mooney GoFundMe project.
