Cristiane Asiano Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 20, 2023.
Cristiane Ronconi Asiano 1960 to 2023

She was a rare combination of intelligence and beauty with determination and enthusiastic energy. She was born on a farm in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Her father, Wilson Nunes de Macedo, and her mother, Zelia Roncon, raised the family, risking everything to defy the military regime and help bring about democracy. Cristiane's mother was beautiful with enough Italian ancestry for Cristiane to get an Italian passport. Cristiane won academic awards and graduated from the Catholic University in Campinas, Brazil. After suffering a near-fatal motorcycle crash that left her disabled for the rest of her life, she traveled the world, ending up in San Diego. Her parents both died in their 50s and never saw their lovely granddaughter, Dana, born and raised in San Diego. She was a vegetarian for over 30 years and raised her daughter as one. Cristiane is survived by her sisters, Zelinda, Zeliane, and Rosana, and by her brothers, Fernando and Daniel, as well as by her husband, Philip, and daughter, Dana. She lived for many years in an apartment on Pacific Beach's boardwalk where she became a naturalized U.S. citizen. In 2002, she met the love of her life, Philip Asiano, marrying him in March 2004 and sharing their Golden Hill home until the end. Diagnosed with glioblastoma, she survived 26 months, a year longer than most with this terrible brain cancer.

Cristiane earned her associate degree at City College and a second college degree at National University. She got her real estate agent's license and notary license. She was fluent in English, Portuguese, Italian and Spanish. She loved traveling with her husband, the last three trips being Kauai, Brazil, and Italy, the last two after her diagnosis. Cristiane loved meeting new people from all over the world and became an Airbnb Superhost. She also loved gardening and volunteering for Comicon and the House of Italy.

Cristiane's life was celebrated with a big party with 56 attending, all treated to live jazz and vegetarian food.

This message is from a Romanian woman Cristiane and I met in Ostia (near Rome, Italy) in March of 2023. We hung out with her and her children and toured the ruins at Antica Ostia and we were all staying at the same hotel.

"I hope this message finds you well.

Left heartfelt Condolences for Cristiane but was unanble to upload them on the website you sent, and simply lost all. Will try to rewrite here and if you find the time, please post on my behalf.

Rest in Peace Cristiane. We are forever grateful for the privilege of meeting you and Philip and sharing a love for history and friendship almost a year ago at the hotel in Ostia near Rome. Thank you for the shared breakfasts full of your joy of life and love; thank you for giving us a generous part of the sweet dish your sister cooked, just as you gave us your positive energy; and for the trip among the ruins, on a day so magneficent and so suggestive of our fleeting lives and the meaning of what we leave behind. You left with me by example master lessons of resilience and appreciation of life in all the small details you found beauty in, and which became splendid under your gaze. It was a privilege experiencing and writing a beautiful page of life together with you and Philip. Condolences and much courage ahead to Philip who taught all present lessons in caring, as well as to your daughter Dana who no doubt will carry your brave spirit forward, and to your large family.

Cristiane please keep watching over your dear ones and over all of us.
Mirela and children"

We are so grateful that we got a chance to spend some time with Philip and Cristiani last September (2023). She was at peace with her illness and what was ahead for her. Jonathan and I were touched with her outlook as it truly takes courage and an inner knowing to face the path ahead.
Cristiani- May your spirit soar in joy and love. Please know that you are missed. We will always remember your smile and zest for life and when you can visit us in our dreams and let us know how you are doing. Until we meet again....

We met Cristiane when she and Philip came to our house for a get together, the first of many such fun times. She was so vivacious and outgoing, and immediately made friends. We will miss her very much.

Glad I got to spend some time with Christiane and Phil when we were all in the Bay Area for Norma. Christiane, your creative, artistic, bohemian spirit will be missed. I know Phil loved and admired that about you.
When I visited them in San Diego, Phil and especially Christiane were so excited to show me all of there favorite places, foods, events and the life they enjoyed there. Thank you for that Christiane and for the energy and passion you shared with us all.

Christiane was high energy and a happy person. She loved her husband, Phil, and mentioned their relationship on Facebook. We worked as Comi Con volunteers. She will be missed

Cristiane was always a bundle of positive energy, full of questions and interesting comments. She was a force to be near with the energy of a spring bud. We all remember her handmade jewelry, gardening skills, home improvement projects and lust for life. She will be remembered as a loving companion to our dear Uncle. She filled his heart with love and we love her for it. Always and forever RIP Cristiane.

This is a post that I translated from Portuguese (forgive the mistakes, its google translate) from a post on facebook:
"From Isis Ribeiro
I'm Brazilian, I live in Campinas SP. I also had the privilege of meeting Cristiane. We worked together when we were 19 years old, in a company called Caderneta de Poupança Continental (Savings).
She had a motorcycle and one day she had an accident. Open elbow fracture, I stayed with her in the hospital for a few hours, I worked during the day and then when I left I went to the hospital to keep her company.
It was a fleeting friendship, then each one went their own way.
Philip, lots of strength and calm her heart, so that her soul finds the light of peace.
I will be praying a lot for her.
It's a shame I managed to see her again under these circumstances.
Rest in peace, my dear friend

My first memory is meeting you at the coffee shop at mission beach. Always so friendly and outgoing and positive. You were a bright light and people were drawn to you. You will be missed.

We never get enough time with people we love. I´m so glad we were friends. I will miss your cute voice and your spunky energy, your eagerness to forge in anything you take on. Inspiring.

My mom fell and broke her hip in Hawaii and was getting helicoptered out of a remote area and I had had to run to the beach to notify the lifeguards. I was very worked up and Cristiane introduced herself and comforted me- a total stranger! She was so kind and caring and my wishes are with the family

It was a shock to hear of Cristiane´s passing. I´m sorry to and send my condolences to Philip and Dana. I had the pleasure of meeting Cristiane while volunteering at SD Comic-Comic. I remember her being a fireball, so full of life and caring for others. I met a gentleman that wanted to submit his artwork and he only spoke Portuguese. I immediately called Cristiane and she left her volunteer post to come and translate and help him out. She went out of her way and stayed with him even though her shift had ended. I only got to interact with her a few times, but we became friends on facebook. She was a very special lady and it was a great pleasure to have met her. Rest in peace Cristiane.
