Cynthia Baxter Obituary

Published by The Chronicle on Jun. 6, 2007.
Cynthia Jane Baxter, 79, passed away peacefully at home in Chehalis on June 1, 2007, after a strong and courageous battle with cancer.
Jane was born March 29, 1928 to Cynthia Drew and Frank Conrad in Coquille OR, the youngest of four children. She attended schools in Oregon, Napavine and Chehalis and graduated from Western Union School in Santa Cruz, CA in 1946 where she received a diploma as a teleprint operator.
She worked with her husband, Jim, as owner/operator of Baxter's Corner Store and the Onalaska Tavern in the 1970's. She loved garage sales, was an avid reader, loved to do embroidery and knitting slippers for her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family and socializing with close friends.
Jane always believed in the power of the full moon and her passing is no coincidence under the power of the rare blue moon.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, Chehalis; her son, Scott Baxter, her daughters and their companions Cindy Baxter and Ernie Fox, and Julie Nikander and Richard Pierce; all of Chehalis; her grandchildren, Gabe Guth in Japan, Noah and Zane Baxter in Vancouver, Jacie Bruner and her husband Luke in Germany, Drew Attaway in Chehalis, Abby Baxter in Tacoma; two great-granddaughters, Alice and Harmony Baxter, in Vancouver, and her sister and brother-in-law Nadine and Charlie Marshall of Olympia along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death, by her son Kipp Baxter, her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Spencer Strasser, her brother Perry Conrad, and her parents.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Strohbach, Dr. Black, Ray and Susan at South Tower Pharmacy and Cathy Hudson at hospice for all their caring and support.
Arrangements are under direction of Brown's Mortuary. At Jane's request a private family graveside service will be held at Alpha Cemetery.

I will never forget how welcoming Jane was to my family and me when we moved to the Logan Hill Rd. area. She and all of the family were so sweet to us.
I will forever remember a beautiful coral taffeta bedspread that Jane gave me for my bedroom. I cried after I put it on my bed because it looked so elegant and lovely.
I was so honored that Jane would trust me to babysit precious, little Julie, who was a delight and absolutely no trouble at all. I think that sweet Jane mainly had me babysit because she knew that I could use the extra money.
I am so grateful that she encouraged my parents to adopt my brothers, Daniel and Tyler, who have been great blessings to our family,
I fondly remember how Jane gave my sisters and I permission to pick gorgeous and tasty red raspberries and black cap berries while she and the family were on a short vacation.
I think that Cynthia Jane Baxter was one of the sweetest people that I have ever known.
My deepest love to her remaining family.

Julie, Jacie and Drew,
Jane was such a beautiful strong woman and loved her family so much. I will never forget how she loved me and treated me as one of her girls. Our prayers go out to you and your dad/grandpa and know that we are just a phone call away. We love you so much.

Aunt Sally let me know of Aunt Jane's passing. I am deeply saddened by the news. She was a fun lady and I have many fond memories, from when I was young, of being at her house and laughing over the many stories. Know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

To Uncle Jim and family,
I have such wonderful memories of Aunt Jane and you guys as I was growing up. Because I spent summer week nights at your house, I felt a special closeness to you all.
Jer and I will miss Aunt Jane's mischivous smile and zest for life. She was a special character in a long line of Conrad characters! Now mom carries the torch alone.
Thank you for taking such good care of her in her final days.
May all of the good times and good memories help you through this difficult time.
We love you all,
Cindy and Jerry
