D. Susan Weiser Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 11, 2025.
Dorothy Susan Weiser, 82, of Norton, Massachusetts passed peacefully on March 7, 2025 after living her final years with vascular dementia.

Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts in 1943, Susan was a graduate of Girls' Latin School (now Boston Latin Academy). During her youth, she could often be found behind the counter at Frank's Cigar Store, her parents' beloved soda fountain and smoke shop, originally located where the John Hancock tower now stands. The store later relocated, and Susan and her family moved to Brookline, where they established roots in the community.

In 1963, Susan earned her RN from the prestigious Beth Israel Hospital School of Nursing. She dedicated her nursing career to geriatric care, eventually rising to nursing home administration. Her compassion and unwavering dedication to her patients defined her professional life.

On March 17, 1972, Susan married Burton C. Weiser, choosing Judaism as her faith. Together, they became active members of Congregation Agudas Achim, where they celebrated the bat and bar mitzvahs of their three children: Michael, Eric, and Laurie.

After hanging up her starched nursing cap in around 1988, she channeled her engaging and gregarious personality into a second career at Floyd's in North Attleboro, where for many years she delighted and helped customers make menswear selections.

Susan was a fun loving person who took disco lessons in the 70s, dressed up for Halloween, and vacationed with Burt and family almost annually in Aruba. In retirement, she worked for fun and pocket money as a waitress at Kricket's Korner in Norton where, for some of that time, Burt worked alongside as a dishwasher.

A sun lover, Susan was always up for the beach, spending countless summers on Cape Cod or lounging poolside. She was a voracious reader and knitter who also delighted in games of bridge, mahjong, and occasionally bingo. Susan embraced her retirement years to the fullest, taking pleasure in long walks, and tending to her yard. She was always up for trying her luck at the casino slot machines with family or friends, and she and Burt had a ritual of buying scratch tickets every Sunday. These weren't just games of chance to her, but cherished moments of fun with loved ones. As "Bubbie" to Adam, Sydney, Evan, Alayna, and Danica, she was the quintessential grandmother-encouraging and doting, rarely missing a sports game or recital.

Susan is survived by her children Laurie Caldwell (Weiser) and husband Michael of Norton, Eric Brooks and wife Cari of Sandwich, and Michael Brooks and husband John Donaghy of Seattle, as well as her grandchildren and niece Janelle (Augenstern) Bonn. Susan also leaves behind loving cousins, friends, and neighbors. She is predeceased by beloved husband Burton C. Weiser, parents Sidney and Virginia (Walsh) Augenstern, brother Larry (Lawrence) Augenstern, and her dear cat Harry.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Alzheimer's Association. Please join the family on May 31, 2025 for a celebration of life at Goat City Pub, Norton, Massachusetts, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.
