Daniel Thomas "Pontiac Dan" Ion

'PONTIAC DAN' IONDaniel Thomas 'Pontiac Dan' Ion of Duluth died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital due to a heart attack. Dan was born in Duluth on January 19, 1952 to George and Florence Marie (Rosenquist) Ion. Dan was with the 148th Minnesota Air National Guard for 21 years. He was a welder for the DM&IR Railroad for 25 years. Dan rode his Goldwing with the Goldwing Club, and was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the NRA. Dan loved to hunt and fish, work on his land, and his favorite was his Pontiac cars. If anyone was in need of advice or where to find parts for a Pontiac, Dan was who they called. He would help anyone who needed it. Dan was a member of the Rock Worship Center in Cloquet. Dan is preceded in death by his parents and his beautiful infant daughter, Casey. Surviving is a son, Dain G. Ion of Duluth and a daughter, Lani M. Ion of Superior; two brothers, William (Sheldean) Ion, and Michael (Laurie) Ion of Duluth; a sister, Lynn (Rex) Weatherstone of Duluth and Dan's special friend, Claudia Conway, of Duluth; three nephews, Doug, Dave and Jason and two nieces, Nicole and Melissa, and more friends than anyone could ever ask for, and his ever so spoiled cat, Mildred. VISITATION:5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 12 Noon until the 1 p.m. service Wednesday in the Bell Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery with Military Honors.
