DARREL ERVIN SARKINEN
August 2, 1942 ~ January 4, 2017

Darrel Ervin Sarkinen passed away, unexpectedly, at home on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. He was born in Gackle, ND on August 2, 1942 to John and Mildred (Muonio) Sarkinen. Darrel was one of ten children and grew up in Gackle, N.D. After graduating from Gackle High School, he attended the University of North Dakota. He became an Electrical Engineer who worked for Bonneville Power and later owned his own consulting business. In 1966 Darrel was united in marriage to Helen Rivers in Minneapolis, MN.
Darrel enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and camping, raising beef cattle and visiting with Christian friends and neighbors. He had a special place in his heart for his children and grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. Darrel was a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Darrel was preceded in death by his son, Timothy; granddaughter, Isabelle Sarkinen; his parents; two brothers: Glen and Donald; four sisters: Sylvia Muonio, Delores Erosky, Victoria Hervi and Alice Sarkinen.
His grateful family includes: his wife, Helen; his five sons: Jared, Brent (Jina), Craig (Nina), Perry (Angela) and Owen (Arianne); four daughters: Tricia (Paul) Karvonen, Dawn (Blake) Hersey, Heidi (Rob) Mitzel and Joan (Murray) Hersey; 42 grandchildren; three brothers: John (Lillian), Curtis (Betty) and Steve(Laura); one sister: Flossie Uskoski; and many loving, close friends and traveling companions.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church Brush Prairie, 16603 NE 142nd Ave. Brush Prairie, WA. Viewing will be held 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Church and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. before the funeral service. Everyone is welcome.

I never new Darrel, but I know Helen and he must of been a good man for her to marry him. My heart goes out to you all during this hard time. The one thing that helped my mom and I, when my dad died, was being together, sharing our memories of him. I hope you can do that, as a family. Take care and love each other.

Darrel and I were neighbors for many years. Although we did not interact on a regular basis, I have always known him to be courteous and respectful. He had strong opinions and beliefs and was true to them in his everyday living. I will remember him that way. He was a good neighbor.
