Born on October 26, 1943, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Stanley and Alice Bernard, Dave grew up surrounded by family, including his brothers Jim and Gary(Jackie), niece Kalee, and sister Mari-Kay. He cherished many summers spent with his grandparents in Thief River Falls.

After graduating from Murray High School, Dave began his lifelong career as a ceramic tile installer, a trade he mastered from his teenage years. Dave married young, and together with his first wife, Linda, he welcomed three children into the world. He was a dedicated father and coach, actively participating in his eldest son's sports teams. Dave's love for sports extended to skiing, hockey, golf and fishing, and he even took up boxing classes. His passion for golf was particularly notable, providing him with many joyful moments on the green.

Dave's personal life was marked by his commitment to his family and his faith. He retired in Gulf Shores, AL. He was a longstanding member of the Orange Beach Community Church, where he found great solace, especially during his later years as he battled cancer. His wife of over 10 1/2 years, Gail, played a significant role during this challenging time, caring for him with deep devotion and leading him in faith.

Dave is survived by his wife Gail; children; Todd Bernard, Tammy Chromey (John); Ty Bernard, and stepson; Dennis (Lulu) Null, grandchildren; Devon, Sierra, Ava, Dominic (Jamie), Dustin, Austin (Meghan), and Gavin. step-grandchildren; John Null, Maitland Null Shelnutt (Slade), Elizabeth Null, and Dean Null. He was also a proud great-grandfather to DJ, Landon, Declan, Mason, and Hazel, with another great-granddaughter expected in October 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley & Alice Bernard, sister Mari-Kay Bernard, and ex-wife, Linda Bernard-Scheid.

A celebration of Dave's life will be held at the Orange Beach Community Church 4773 Bay Cir, Orange Beach, AL 36561 (July 27th 10:00am) with a secondary, smaller celebration planned in Minnesota (Aug 4th 1-4pm) The Bowline 220 East River Parkway Champlin, Mn 55316. I just found out that Dave died. I am so saddened that I didn´t know about this. My father, Ken Carlson is the person who taught Dave the tile business. Tammy, I read your message in the memorial. Your grandmother Alice and my mother, Bev were first cousins. Our families were very close when I was growing up. I absolutely loved your dad. My friends all thought he was so....handsome. He was so good to me even though I was a pesky cousin who was 5 years younger than him. I convinced him to take me and a friend skiing, and I loved it!! After reading the obit I see that Mary Kay has also died. I´m so sad that we have lost touch. My condolences to you and your family. Nancy Carlson Dahlin
