KINGSPORT – Charles David Broome, 57, entered into eternity with his Lord and Savior Monday morning, April 24, 2006, at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol.
Born in Knoxville, he had resided in Kingsport most of his life. He was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and East Tennessee State University and served in the U.S. Army Security Agency. David retired from Eastman Chemical Company on March 1, 2006, after 32 years of service in the accounting department.
He was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church, where he was president of his Sunday school class. He had served for the past three years as the bookkeeper for Meals on Wheels.
David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Dallas L. Broome Sr. and Ingrid O. Broome, his stepfather, Carl Williams, and two sisters, Jeannie Hubbard and Loretta Broome.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Harriet Clouse Broome of the home; two daughters, Melissa Ferguson and husband Bubba, Blountville, and Teresa Bowers and husband Kevin, Maryville; one son, Robert Broome and wife Brandi, Marietta, Ga.; four granddaughters, Anna Cate Broome, Emma Claire Broome, Jacey Ferguson and Brianna Ferguson; two sisters, Linda Kellogg and husband Mickey, Ironton, Ohio, and Libby Brown, Blountville; one brother, Dallas L. Brome Jr. and wife Judy, Kingsport; two aunts, Jean Fugate, Raymond, Miss., and Mary Jane Olofsson, Knoxville; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Indian Springs Baptist Church. A celebration of David's life will follow at 8 p.m. at the church, with Dr. Roc Collins and the Rev. Jack Edwards officiating.
According to his wishes, David's body was cremated.
A committal service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Monte Vista Memorial Gardens, Johnson City.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Couples "A" Sunday School Class.
Memorial contributions may be made to Indian Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 325 Hill Road, Kingsport, TN 37664; or Wellmont Hospice House, 280 Steele's Road, Bristol, TN 37620.
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, is serving the Broome family.
