Very sorry to belatedly learn of David's passing. He was an inspiration to me as English master , and I have often drawn on his teachings in my everyday life. Deepest condolences to the family. Gareth Allatt

It is, sadly, only now that I have learned of David's death.
I was a pupil at KES until 1976 where he taught me English language and literature before I went on to study law at King's College, London.
As senior pupils, he was devoted to his tutor groups in terms of our education, but he also shared with us many other thoughts concerning life at KES - on occasion, slightly irreverent - before we settled down to work!
He was also greatly appreciative that for many years I played the organ at school assembly.
I remember him very well indeed and I send my sincere condolences to Pearl and the family at this sad time.

I'm so very sorry to hear the sad news. You never forget a fantastic teacher and to me David Elliston was just that. From a young age I had a particular passion for Shakespeare and drama. He really understood and supported me in this throughout my time at King Edward VII School (1979-1986). He directed me in the school plays in each of the 7 years I was there. I now live in London and not surprisingly I have gone on to pursue a career as a professional actor - from time to time I spoke to Mr Elliston on the phone during his retirement to tell him how things were going and he continued to encourage and inspire me. I have so many happy memories of my time with him at KES. I still meet up with school pals in London and to this day we can all remember every line of Kubla Khan! It was his 'gift' to every student that he taught to make them learn Coleridge's epic poem in its entirety. I will never forget it or him.
I send my heartfelt condolences to his wife Pearl and all the family. Warm regards, Simon Hepworth. Putney London
