HAMEL, David Marcel Better known as `Pappy' March 6, 1927 Ocober 7, 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David `Pappy' Hamel who died peacefully at home in Langley, BC on Sunday, October 7, 2007 leaving his beloved wife, Louise, and son, Justin. Pappy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, raised in Davidson, Saskatchewan having served in the Navy, RCMP (Air Division) Reg. #10955, later embracing his aviation interests along with his music. He lived a full life having achieved recognition in 4 Music Halls of Fame (Country & Western Swing) and Aviator of the Year (Langley Aero Club, Canadian Museum of Flight). He has literally instructed thousands of pilots, both local and international, at Fort Langley Seaplane base over the past 40 years. The song has ended, but the melody lingers on." A `Celebration of Life' will be held at Noon, Saturday, November 3rd, Shannon Hall, Cloverdale Rodeo & Exhibition, 6050A 176th St., Surrey, BC. Dress: Casual Attire. Musician & Aviator friends are encouraged to bring a song and/or story. Dave me enseñó a volar sea aeroplanes (May 1994). El dueño de la empresa era! nuestro amigo Walter Davidson. De vez en cuando Dave encendía un cigarrillo dentro del avión y con cara de picardía me decía: no le digas al dueño que estoy fumando. Después desplegaba toda su imaginación para hacer desaparecer la colilla sin tirar la por la ventana, porque contaminaba...
Todos los días durante el vuelo Me contaba historias del Valle del río Fraser. Por ejemplo una época que hubo grandes inundaciones y se veían las vacas flotando en el río.
Lo que más me impresionó fue en mi primer vuelo sobre el río, cuando llegamos a unos cables de alta tensión, me dijo que los tenía que pasar por abajo, puesto que nuestro avión era un sea aerolane.
Me regaló un long Play con canciones de su banda.
Buen instructor, buen guitarrista, buena voz.
