David Hovorka Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 29, 2025.
Born on August 4, 1957, in Dayton, Ohio, Dave's life was marked by a deep commitment to learning, service, and quiet acts of kindness. He pursued his academic interests with dedication, earning a B.A. in Microbiology from Michigan State University, a B.A. in Medical Technology from Wright State University, and later an M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut.

Dave began his professional journey as a Research Assistant in public health at the University of Michigan. His career then took him to Connecticut, where he worked as a Medical Technologist at Backus Hospital in Norwich. He spent many years at Manchester Hospital as an Assistant Lab Manager. From there, Dave transitioned to working in hospital information systems at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. There he served in various management roles over the course of 16 years. In 2018, Dave returned to Michigan to join Trinity Health Care, where he continued to contribute his expertise and leadership in implementing hospital information systems until his passing.

Throughout his career, Dave was known for his thoughtful approach and unwavering dedication. He loved what he did and found great meaning in helping those he worked with and those who would benefit from his work.

Outside of work and family life, Dave found joy in nature's quiet beauty-whether walking through forests or relaxing by the beach. He enjoyed long walks with his dog Riley and had a fondness for exploring local taprooms and wineries wherever he might travel. These simple pleasures reflected the gentle spirit that defined him.

Dave was a kind-hearted man whose love for others was expressed not through grand gestures but through steady support and thoughtful actions. His presence brought comfort to those around him.

Dave is survived by Nancy, his beloved wife of 44 years; his sons Steven and Daniel (Liz); his sisters Cathy and Judy; step-mother Jane; step-siblings Roger and Karen (Vince); sister-in-law Jeanne (Brad); brother-in-laws Tom (Dan), Jim, and Larry (Kim); along with many nieces and nephews who were part of the extended family he cherished.

He was predeceased by his parents Jim and Joan Hovorka and his brother Robert.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Arbor Hospice for their compassionate care during Dave's final days-especially Kelli aka "Wonder Woman" and all who supported him and his loved ones during this time.

In remembrance of Dave's life and legacy, donations may be made to Arbor Hospice at https://arborhospice.org/donate/. A celebration of Dave's life will be organized by the family at a future date.

May his memory bring peace to all who knew him.

I am very sorry to hear of Dave´s passing. I worked with Dave as vendor during his time at Trinity. He was always a true pleasure to work with. He was one of the most detailed and organized people I´ve ever worked with. It´s not always possible to get to know customers on a personal level, but Dave´s kindness was clearly evident. My condolences go out to his family and friends.

I had the honor of working with Dave for almost 25 years between Manchester Hospital and St. Francis Hospital. He was always a calming influence, extremely knowledgeable, and very dedicated to his work. Truly a "go to guy" and just a great all around person.
My deepest sympathies go out to his entire family.

So sorry to hear of the passing of David. I had the pleasure of working with him as a vendor during the Trinity/OBIX project. I enjoyed working with David - his calm presence even in the craziness and heaviness of this project. I always knew that if David was leading then everything would be okay and completely organized. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as they walk these next steps.

I will always have fond memories of Dave. Whether it was in the trenches late night with an IT system go live, attending a conference, or stopping by his office for a chocolate, you could always count on a smile and thoughtful advice/conversation. We will all miss Dave and pray for healing and comfort for his family, loved ones, and friends.

Dave was my manager for the last couple of years, we worked together for several years. He was like a work father to me, a great mentor, and genuinely a caring person. I will remember his kind heart and the laughs we all shared. He will be deeply missed.

My wife and I became neighbors with Dave and Nancy about a year ago. He always had a kind greeting, would answer my home care questions with good advise, and would lend a ladder, if needed. He helped our neighborhood feel less like just a place to live and more like a home. We will miss him.

Such sad news out of Ann Arbor. Dave was my stepbrother. Always positive. Always helpful. Always supportive. After his Dad (my stepfather Jim) passed away, Dave was AMAZING to my Mom (his stepmother Jane). His kindness, patience and extra efforts made a huge difference and will never be forgotten. My heart goes out to his wife Nancy, his sons Steven and Daniel, his sisters Cathy and Judy... and the rest of his loving family and friends.
