David Lewis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 22, 2010.
HYANNIS — David Lewis died unexpectedly at his home in Hyannis on Monday, April 19, 2010, at the age of 39.

He was the loving husband of Christine Lewis, and beloved son of David and Nancy Lewis of Osterville.

David was a native Cape Codder, a graduate of Barnstable High School, and a respected builder and finish carpenter.

He was an avid outdoorsman who used the power of nature as a source of strength and inspiration. A natural snowboarder, he loved bare camping on his land in Vermont with his wife, family and friends. His bonfires and barbeques there were the stuff of legend. He also loved bowling with his friends and his father.

He brought a charisma, ease and charm into every room that was lucky enough to have him enter it. His smile was infectious. People didn't just know David. They loved him.

He is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Amy and Sean Doherty, Wendy and Alec Beckett, and Jody and Dallas Sherman; and nine nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24, in Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 S. Main St., Centerville. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, in the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road (Route 28), Marstons Mills.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Gosnold on Cape Cod Treatment Center, 200 Ter Hune Drive, Falmouth, MA 02540.

A friend, Pete called while at a mutual friend house and I answered. He said he wanted to talk to the Hawaiian looking guy. Then our conversations began

Dear Christine, Nancy, and Lewis family:

I am so sorry that Dave is gone. He was such a talented, fun to be with guy. He'd completed numerous updates to my home upon the recommendation of Scott Jones after my husbands' passing 3 years ago, and I'd grown to know him and love him. I considered him a friend, in spite of a 20+ year age difference. His latest update was to remodel my deck into a sun room, and I am now at a loss as to what to do--one thing is certain, if I do complete the project, my new room will host a sign displaying "Louie's room" -- I had for some reason started calling Dave Louie! May God bless you all. Much love, Barbara Prentice

Dear Christine,
I was at the Mary McCarthy House this morning and saw Corey and he told me about David. I am just stunned. I can not believe this has happened to you. I remember looking at your wedding photos and how they made me cry, they were so beautiful.I did not know David, but from what you said about him, I could tell he was a sweet, caring person, just as you are. I know there will be nothing I can say to ease your pain, except to say that I am just devastated for you and that I hope in time the pain will ease and you will find your way to go on. God Bless David and God Bless You.

Words can not express how very sorry, sad and angry I was to hear of this tragic news. David was such sweet, jolly, fun, likable kid growing up in Osterville. He was member of our ''gang'' and we raise some serious havoc on the mean streets of Osterville,Micah's Pond,A&P,etc.. Although we have not seen each other in many years, I recently passed him getting into his vehicle by the PO in Osterville, and I couldn't help think to myself wow, David still looks like David ! I wish we could have caught up with each other.. If I had to describe David's personality back then, all I can think of is the late great actor John Candy. David had THAT kind of personality.. Friendly, funny, jolly, goofy, sweet, kind, very fun to be around, and yes, David always had that SMILE ! I still keep in touch with some of our mutual friends and they are all very torn up over this.. David will be sorely missed.

God must have needed an angel...and He certainly got one. How lucky they are up in heaven to have Davey...I just wish God waited about 40 more years to take him from us...

We will all miss you Davey. You were so very special to all of us. We will never forget your infectious smile and your kind spirit. Please watch over us until we meet again...We love you.

David made an impression on me although I knew him for a short time, his carisma is fresh in my mind. He will be remembered in my mind as someone to to look up to. He made an impact on my life. The short time we knew and worked together gave me inspiration., as he was very influential. I have lost very close friends in the past and it is always difficult to come to terms with a loss, of a loved one. God Bless

To the Entire Lewis Family and Christine,

Although its been many years since I have seen any of you, I was deeply saddened by David's passing and my sympathy goes out to you all. I am so very sorry that I cannot be there to say my final goodbye to David. I will never forget that smile or his laugh. Many of my fondest childhood memories growing up in Osterville included David and your family. Please know I will be there in spirit and prayer. I know I speak for my Dad, Mom, and Pam as well.

God Bless you all and may David Rest in Peace

Dear Dave,

It seems hard to believe it was 20 years ago that I first heard your contagious laughter. It's so much harder to believe I will never hear it again. You were so kind and friendly to everyone you met, and your love for nature and the animal world was tangible. The first time I ever went camping was on your land so long ago, and, years later, you patiently tried to teach me to snowboard at Bretton Woods. I can still hear your uncontrollable laughter when I took that photo of you, Brian and Chris on our trip to Tahoe.

I was so happy to see you take charge of your life and destiny in recent years, and so glad when you found Christine to share it with. You were and are an inspiration. My only consolation is to think that you are peacefully watching over us, with your beloved Moxie by your side.

My heart goes out to Christine and the entire Lewis family during this unimaginably difficult time. Your sadness is felt by so many others, for Dave touched so many lives.

Love,
Sarah

Dear Mr and Mrs Lewis, Christine and family,
Words cannot begin to express my sadness, for your loss. David was quite possibly one of my favorite people. His smile and demeanor always a welcome distraction when he would stop in and see me at the Disney Store, or as years went by when I would see him here and there around town.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers as I travel to New York this weekend.

My deepest Sympathy,

Love,

Suzy
