Dawn Lake Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 29 to Oct. 1, 2009.
Dawn Michele (Johns) Lake, of Dundalk, Md., formerly of Effingham, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009. There were no services. Dawn had her body donated to science. People who would like to honor Dawn can do so by contributing to Effingham County Humane Society. Dawn was born April 24, 1968, and was a 1986 graduate of Dulaney High School in Timonium, Md. She was on the board of directors of Effingham Humane Society for several years and volunteered at a church in Maryland helping to feed the less fortunate. Dawn was employed as the nanny for the family of Chris and Jo Ann Kade of Effingham for 13 years. Dawn had no children of her own, but always considered the Kade children to be her children as well. Her smile, kindness and grace will be missed by those who touched her life and whose lives she touched. Her capacities for compassion, trust and devotion were an example to all and she always treated people with respect. She wanted to be remembered for who she was, a vibrant, vivacious and happy person. She is survived by her boyfriend of five and one-half years, Michael Mullen of Dundalk, Md.; her father, L. Rod Johns of Dundalk, Md.; and her mother, Diane Larney of Rehoboth Beach, Del.

Dawn, the cat lady, was one of those people you talk to when you are feeling down. She always knew the right words to say to make your day better. I will never forget her advise, her sweet voice, and her beautiful smiles. She was truely one of a kind.

When thinking of Dawn, her quick and easy smile is what I rember. She had a great love for all animals.

I am so sorry to hear of Dawn's death. I cleaned her home for about 4 years and came to know and love her for the unique person that she was. She had such a love for animals and children. Please know that my heart aches for you. I was just thinking of her this morning and then when I read the newspaper I saw the notice. I was shocked and saddened. We have lost a beautiful person that was a bright light in many lives.
