Dawn STAMP Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 10 to May 11, 2011.
STAMP Dawn Marie Dawn Marie Stamp, age 45, of Maumee, Ohio, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 7, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 27, 1965 to James and Valerie (Baker) Stamp in Chattanooga, TN. Dawn was very involved with volunteer work at the Red Cross and taught babysitting classes there while at Maumee High School through the 1980's before leaving for college. During her college years, she was a case worker for the State of Michigan. "Go Blue" always! Dawn was also one of three persons chosen by the Red Cross to represent the U.S. in the worldwide volunteer of the Year Award Program. She traveled to Austria and surrounding countries for a month with the Red Cross Program. Dawn touched the lives of everyone she knew. Dawn's complicated condition became uncharted territory and a learning experience for her doctors. Her condition was a one in a million and many times, they would marvel over her recovery. So often the doctors would say "who knows it's Dawn Stamp". The nurses marveled every time they saw Dawn and would ask how and what she had been doing. Dawn and her family would always see many a familiar face with every admission. Her last 20 years had revolved around the hospital in so many ways, the hospital staff became Dawn's second family. There is truly no way we could ever thank all the nurses and doctors who cared for her in such a personal way. Our appreciation could never surpass your dedication for Dawn. We love you all. Lovingly nicknamed Manya by her mom and fondly called the "BigD" by her nephew, Lucas. Dawn was one of God's Very Special Angels. She was timeless and ageless and fought many years for her health. Every battle was with God by her side. He was her co-pilot all of her life. After a grim diagnosis of a brain tumor in 1993, Dawn went on to fight her uphill battles with great strength, courage and determination to win. She faced her battles head on with all the complications they brought. She is survived by her mother, Valerie Stamp Parton; father, James (Kathy) Stamp; sisters, Lori-Sue Stamp, Kimberly Renee Stamp Kowal, Jennifer ValerieAnn (Stephen) Parton-Bachtel; fiancé, Roger Dale Phillips; half sister, Jaclyn Stamp and half brother, Jimmy Stamp; nephews, Lucas, Ethan, Leo, Chet and Jake. She was preceded in death by her dad, Jim "Opa" Parton Family and friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St, Maumee, on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from 1-8 p.m. and Thursday from 1-8 p.m. where a celebration of her life will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. In Dawn's memory please make memorial contributions to UTMC, Pastoral Office, 3000 Arlington Avenue, mail stop 1055, Toledo, OH 43614. My deepest sympathies to the Parton and Stamp families and all friends. I was saddened to read of Dawn's long illness and passing. I met Dawn when we were students at Eastern Michigan University. She was cute, spunky and had a wonderful sense of humor. I’ve missed her over the years and have wonderful memories of the times we spent hanging out on campus, joking with her roommates, or studying for exams (she helped me pass statistics). She was a dear friend and I admired her strong spirit.

While I cannot write anything to lesson your pain, I want you to know that she spoke often, and fondly of her family. Not always a common trait in college aged girls. I heard stories of her siblings, high school and growing up in Maumee. I still remember the year a couple of us drove from campus to visit Dawn one day during Christmas break. Unfortunately we were involved in a car accident during an ice storm on the return trip home. Dawn and her family were kind enough to pick us up from the garage and bring us back to their home for the night. We awoke to a nice breakfast the next morning before hitting the road for home. I can see how her personality was influenced by her warm and wonderful family.

I hope at least some of your sadness will be comforted by knowing that she was loved by many people and will not be forgotten. May God be with your family, as he has always been with Dawn.

It was 20 yrs ago when I was introduced to my brides sister - her beauty was only surpassed by her love and kindness. She truly had a lust for life and she was always loving and kind to all she touched .My son's Leo Chet & Jake and I are blessed to have had her in our lives and she will always be in our hearts - she taught us to live life everyday and share our love and smiles and faith . Dawn taught us that People will forget what you said and People will forget what you did but people will never forget how you made them feel!" I know she will keep the gates open for us and tell Peter to let us in so we can see her smile again.GOD Bless Dawn and all she touched . Her brother from another mother will miss her and her unconditional love .Peace be with her and all of us who loved her

Didn't realize Dawn wasn't born in Maumee since it seems that I've known her since birth. She was sweet child that became a happy, beautiful woman. Her life has been too short but in that brief time, she has truly touched and blessed everyone who has had the priviledge of knowing her. My family and I spent time together last Sunday reliving our memories of Dawn and will cherish them always.

To the Stamp/Parton family and friends,
I will forever remember Dawn's smiling face, her sweet pursed lips getting ready for Marcia to kiss her, her endless determination that made our world a better place.

Love,

I went to grade school with Dawn and I was saddened to hear of her passing. I am very thankful to hear of all the help she shared and gave to others during her work at the Red Cross. I have had to rely on the Red Cross many times over the years and I appreciate all the time she devoted to this wonderful organization. My thoughts and prayers go to her family and friends during this difficult time and I pray for God's ultimate grace be with you.

I remember when Dawn was first diagnosed. It's hard to believe it's been almost 20 years. I am so proud of her courage and strength. Despite everything, she kept her sense of humor. She is with God now and is at peace. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
