Deborah Lakeway, 61, of Aiken, South Carolina, passed away in her home on January 6, 2023. Born in Rota, Spain, Debbie grew up primarily in Rhode Island. She was the daughter of Frederick J. Lakeway, of Duxbury, MA and of the late Anne Marie (n?e Fugere) Lakeway.

Debbie started working in the food and beverage industry before going to work in vacation rental properties and timeshares in Florida and Hilton Head, SC. She loved the warm climate but also enjoyed living in Colorado Springs, CO. She was an avid reader and watched Jeopardy nightly. She loved a good card game and was always doing arts & crafts projects. She was happiest at home with her cat curled up on her lap.

One passion Debbie had throughout her life was searching for quality secondhand items. She collected mermaids and cobalt blue glassware among other things. She shared her finds with family and friends. Debbie enjoyed writing letters, the old-fashioned way, sending notes in the mail which eventually got her interested in stamp collecting. She had a remarkable way of always remembering to send birthday and anniversary cards, in addition to all the big holidays. She was often consulted as the unofficial family historian and enjoyed sharing stories and old family photos.

Debbie was preceded in death by her partner and best friend of 24 years, Paul LoBosco, who passed away on October 27, 2022. She is survived by her brother Stephen F. Lakeway of Jakarta, Indonesia, and sister Laura S. Lakeway of Washington, DC. In addition, niece Jessica A. (n?e Lakeway) Ross of Newton, MA, and nephews Daniel S. Lakeway of Smithfield, RI, and Gregory M. Lakeway of East Greenwich, RI.

A memorial service has been planned for a later date. Her ashes will be buried alongside her mother in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown RI. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a local animal shelter, a cause Debbie felt strongly about.
