HAVERHILL — Dennis B. Ray, 54, of Bradford, died Wednesday morning, April 2, 2008 after being stricken at home.
Born in Haverhill, son of the late Daniel and Barbara (Hovey) Ray, he was a lifelong resident of the city. He attended Haverhill public schools and was a member of the Haverhill High School, Class of 1971. He later received his degree in Urban Planning from Salem State College in 1980.
Employed by UPS in Chelmsford for the past 28 years, Dennis worked as a driver and package handler and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 25.
A member of St. John the Baptist Parish, Dennis was a long-time volunteer for the Christmas in April project in Haverhill. He was also a member of Cedardale Health and Athletic Club of Bradford.
He was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed hosting St. Patrick's Day parties and summer cookouts, and entertaining his family and friends at his home. Well-known for his Christmas light displays, Dennis looked forward to his summer vacations at Seabrook Beach and watching his daughter compete at track meets. A life-long fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, he was an avid fisherman and skier and took advantage of traveling with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jean (Andrewartha) Ray; his daughter, Colleen Erin Ray of Bradford; his mother-in-law, Alberta Andrewartha of Bradford; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Mary Ray of Springfield, Va. and Kevin and Patricia Ray of Newfields, N.H.; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Michael McCaughey of Hampton, N.H., Maureen Ray of Haverhill, Sharon and Vincent Ternullo of Londonderry, N.H. and Kathleen and Christopher Currier of Hampton, N.H.; a sister-in-law, Gladys Ray of Kingston, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Daniel Ray.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, April 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. His funeral will be held on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 10 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Ave., Haverhill. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Salem Street, Bradford. The family encourages relatives and friends to make donations to the Haverhill High School Scholarship Fund in memory of Dennis B. Ray, 137 Monument St., Haverhill, MA 01832.

I was so stricken with the news. I know we have been very removed and apart but I had a dream about you the other day. True friends tend to be bonded in wierd ways.
